Like Chris I went under the knife and had problems. I had Diverticulitis pretty bad. After having some bad episodes I decided to have surgery. I had surgery Jan 10 it was suppose to be Laperscopy, nope :? They had to cut me up the belly because they cut 8" out of my colon and a section of my small intestine that had a pollup they thought was cancerous, also they thought because of my colon I had Crones desies. Luckly I had neither . I was out after five days back in the hospital three days latter. I was puking and had a temp. I got out after seven days was home for 4 weeks and had to go back in. Same problem kept having infection. Got out after five days sent home with a PICC line (I was givening myself home IV antibotics). That lasted for a day back in via amblence. I was in for I think 10 days. They had to re cut me open to find the infection as the Multiple CAT scans could not find it. I woke up with a hose up my nose, a drain (Strechy hose) on the left side, and a poop bad on my right. I kept get sick everytime I ate in the hospitial. It turned out the antinause medicine that also made your stomach work better was making me sick. Not only was it making me puke, but it was making nerve impulese in my arm that was driving me nuts. They finally figured it out that I had a reaction to it. I finally got out of the hospitial and the first night I couldn't sleep so I took a sleeping pill they had given me a prescription to a couple hospital trips ago. 0400 I wake up to pee and passed out with my fist in the toilet. It took me forever to get out I think I kept passing out. My wife woke up helped me wash my hand, I took one step and passed out again. Luckly I did no damage.
I finally was doing better went back to work last week. Work Monday, Wed, Fri at work and the other two days from home. First day went well and then it went down hill from there. I think I caught my son's flu. I feel much better now. I have to have 30 calender days and then my short term disability resets back to 16 weeks. I have been very thankful for the disability from my work. I feel this week will be better. On May 1st I get checked out if things are good to go I will get to schedule surgery to remove the poop bag.
Thangs have sucked, but it could have been worse. I am getting better and I don't have cancer or Crones dieses. I thank my wife, parents and church for their support. My 9 month old son has made me so happy. When they fix the bag no cutting just stich the stoma, drop it back in and staple me up. A couple weeks of heal time.
Cheers All
