Won't stay lit

I'm a relatively new cigar smoker and I'm running into a problem. For some reason my cigars never stay lit. Case in point: I purchased some cigars at J&R in North Carolina on Thursday. The one I'm trying to smoke now is a Romeo Y Julieta Reserve Real. I toasted the end then puff and rotated till I thought the cigar was well lit. I take a puff about every 1 minute. Yet the cigar does not draw well and I'm not getting a nice smoke. I've had this same problem before many times. Any suggestions?

Could be plugged, could be overhumidified. From what you've said, you've done everything else right. If all the cigars came from the same merchant, overhumidification is a likely culprit. Always a good idea to let all cigars sit for at least two weeks in your own humidor before smoking them.

What Bloof said. I would guess overhumidification. JR ships cigars from North Carolina. Typically, places that ship cigars will keep them at a higher level of humidification to keep them from drying out too much on their trip to the customer. I've purchased cigars from JR online and not had a problem with them staying lit, but I did wait a week before smoking them. If this doesn't help, it may be better for you to puff every 30-45 seconds or so to keep it lit. Any more frequent than 30 seconds, and it may get harsh on you. Good luck and welcome to the board!

I'd agree with The Great Dumboni and The Atomic Squid on the humidification issue. Many in theses here parts will put any and all new cigars into controlled stoarge for a set amount of time, say 30-45 days, for the cigars to rest and stabilize.
I might also inquire to your method of cutting and the actual source of your lighting flame. How do you accomplish those tasks right now?

And I too welcome you aboard!

Leave one out for 2 or 3 hours before smoking it.
Let us know if this drying period helps any????
