starting from the begining, a few days ago me and some guys at work were talking about 4 of us getting hired perm (were all contractors) and i mentioned there were only 4 of us that had been there a while and us four should be hired for seniority. i made a totally off color remark thinking it was fine cause i was with "freinds" and said jokingly, man if i dont get hired here full time im gonna blow the building up!!! we all had a good laugh. i get a call tonight from my contractor agent saying it was very urgent we speak. i was on the way to a restaurant with some buddies and she said pull over right now. so i did and she informs me that i was fired for making dangerous threats to work property!!!!!!!!! i didnt even remember the conversation i had a couple days ago then i remembered one guy that was standing there said, wow i dont know if we can trust you, im kinda scared of you. i figured he was joking but he must have sent a manager an email telling them what i said.

its all good though, i didnt like that place, im ok on money for a while so i can find a good job that i want. i should have left that place a long time ago. a story that ridiculous has to have some intervention from god, so im sure hes got somthing lined up for me.

sucks

I'm sorry you lost your job, but sounds like you are in very good spirits. I would punch that guy that tattled on you in the face b/c hes such a moron  and tell him tattle on this.

We are living in the day-in-age we can't say the things we used too be able too w/out some brainwashed liberal crapping his pants.

Watch what you say

This same thing happened where I work,
The guy was also a contract employee and we car pooled.
He made a similar comment about our boss in the break room, I blew it off but some else heard it.
The next thing I klnow I'm being questioned by company lawyer and he was being escorted out (by security guards).
These days and times you've got to be careful what you say, the walls have ears.

This happened before Sept. 11th, I'm sure it could be worse now.

There are no "friends" at work.
Doesn't matter who they are. I rarely associate with people I work with. Always professional. People will screw you in a second to get a leg up.

Sorry to hear that, man! What kind of friggin weasel would tell on you that way? Frig - how does that guy sleep at night? Also, how can they let you go without talking to you first?

I hate to say it but Ravyn is right - that's why I started my business 15 years ago - my partner and I couldn't stand dealing with that kind of nonsense.

Things happen for a reason, Jhiggs - I do believe that. Take the time to relax - have a few sticks.

Wow, JiHiggs, sorry to hear that. If ya need anything, let us know. It's funny how in today's world people snitch to get ahead.
Where I come from we say "Snitches get stiches!"

I gotta story to tell you about my Senior Officer. I work in Corrections now, and this lady just got promoted to a Senior Officer about 4 months ago. She is constantly snitching and she is constantly ease dropping on all of our conversations and half the time, we try to set her up with false info. She in turn goes to the "head shed" to try to rat us out, but always gets the story wrong.

The Warden told her that if she goes to him again with "bull sh!t", she's fired. It's so funny, because now, she tries to write everything down on a pad with exact times, to try to prove things.

Before the start of our shift on Sunday, we left mouse traps and blocks of cheese at the control desk for her!

That's really pathetic... I'm sorry, jihiggs. Maybe now, you can pursue a place you enjoy better.

I kinda have a somewhat similar thing going on at work right now. Been cooking for a long time, and now working at a fine dining restaurant in a hotel. We have mainly banquet business, but the restaurant still has some business. Anyway, I've been there a year and 9 months. Longest evening cook, there, and seen 3 Exec. Chefs come and go. We lost our Sous Chef a while back. I turned in my resume for it. They kept putting me off. well, finally they interviewed me and gave me Lead PM Chef, which is to be Sous Chef after a little time. Well, I had found out they are still actively seeking a s.c. They hired one 3 wk. back. He was horrible... arrogant, power tripping, adn really ignorant of kitchen stuff. I couldn't believe it. I was p.o.ed. They fired him after 2 weeks. Chef told us he wasn't going to hire another sous... blah blah... He's looking, again. And to top it all off... another cook there, who tends to get into rants and freak out, went off the other night to me about our other cook... who's young, and learning. well, the night after that, I was off, that same cook went off to the young one how he was the best cook back there, they didn't need me or the other guy (this is TO the other guy), chef is going to get rid of us, that I sucked.. and the other kid should step up and take my job... all kinds of wonderful garbage. But yet, he's all nice to my face, and tells me how he wants me to be the new sous chef, etc. It was just ridiculous, considering how that guy is lazy, horrible attitude, and comes in smelling of the hippie lettuce, and even enjoys some on breaks, out back.

Anyway... sorry for that long post. I've just been fuming.

So, again, I'm sorry about your situation, jihiggs. Something better is coming very soon!

jihiggs, some free advice from a Personnel Director. Get hold of the other two parties to that "joking" conversation and make sure they knew that it was a joke. Assuming they agree that it was all a light hearted frolic you need to tell them what has happened to you and get statements from them stating the true nature of the incident i.e. harmless fun. That done, ask for a hearing in the interest of fair play and see if you can get reinstated, even on a temporary basis. Then, work while you find another job and give them proper written notice that you are leaving for another job. It is a mistake to let this stand, be respectful and point out that you have past job history that shows you to be a safe, sane hard worker, and you have learned your lesson about careless joking.

i have been told i cannot contact any one there, how can i get statements from people if im not allowed to call, write or email?

Sounds like you are screwed. This is a serious matter and if I were guilty of nothing more than a bad joke I would spend a few bucks on an attorney if neccessary to get my side heard. There is someone higher up than this contractor lady. Good luck.

Real bummer, jihiggs. Sorry to hear about this situation. Hope things turn around for you quickly.

Bad thing is that in a lot of places the employer can let you go (fire you) for no reason at all. Unless you're protected by some sort of contract or union.

Sad but true that some people will do anything to get ahead, even if it means ruining someone else's job and reputation. Whoever it was pretty much eliminated you using a good work record there as a reference on other jobs?

Jihiggs,

That sucks man, I am sorry to hear about your job. What type of work do you do?

Also since we are close by we should go smoke some cigars. What area of Seattle do you live? I work in Bellevue and live by Monroe.

Regards
Martin

ahh, a fellow northwesterner! i thought i was the only one! i live in downtown bellevue right off main street. we deffinately need to hook up and smoke some. im really not upset at losing that job, it was a shitty place anyway, i only stayed there cause it was such an easy job i could watch dvds all day. now the free ride is over and i got to find a good job where i can actually use my skills.

I sure am glad I am in a Union! Even though we are union, I know of a senoir Fire Officer that got a HUGE suspension for saying jokingly, "he would go postal". Be careful what you say, no matter what position you hold on the ladder......

I will go walking and smoke a cigar Tuesdays and Thursdays during lunch. We could get together for a lunch and smoke a cigar. How does next week sound?

Meet them in the parking lot or across the street, call them under a differant name and set up a meeting, or you could always call (800) my back hurts, those sharks are pretty good at this kind of stuff.

next week will work, either day, i seem to have plenty of time on my hands lol. do you know of any cigar freindly places in bellevue? i know a few that you can smoke cigarettes, maybe we could just force the issue. ever been to the tap house brewery?

Is the Tap house the one by the gallaria or across the freeway on 8th st?

I usually go to a park and smoke my stogies with a friend while we walk his two dogs. I am not sure of any place we could smoke inside.

wow, sorry to hear it higgs....

Good to hear that it will be okay for you for a while....glad you have some cushion, now seems like a good time to sit back and give somew time to those cigars that have been needing lots of time to spend with you....

We are in a time of over sensitivity.....for one...it's okay to bring a Xikar ciutter on a plane (when taken apart, looks like a velociraptor claw) but not a lighter....

I have a friend who had a party years ago, some dumb kid calls 411 and says somwe crazy things....next thing you know, he's in jail and the FBI are investigaing him....
