Just wondering why the older humidors were lined with copper instead of spanish cedar?

YO RED!!!!

Welcome aboard!

As to your question...

I have no idea whatsoever.... sorry man...... 8)

copper was used a long time ago for several reasons, but
primarily to be both a barrier for moisture, and to prevent damage from spillage. Ever since we have been able to make hard finishes, and use mixtures of PG & water to humidify, it has not been necessary.

I have an old Jewett humidor which belonged to my wifes great great grandfather. It is copper lined and actually not it too bad of shape. One of these days I'll get around to cleaning it up and seeing how well it holds humidity.

All the best,

Joe
