Sargent Cigar Chest

Hello All,

This is my first post on the cigar list and a question. I picked up an old humidor at a tag sale. It is wood, the bottom half is lined with white glass and the top looks like plaster of paris.

It has a tag, "Sargent Cigar Chest Patented Dec 22 1908 Bridgeport, Conn.

Is this any good? How do you use it? Wet the plaster?

Also, in the humidor is a cigar in a glass tube with a cork and a seal. I think the band is "CABS? H DE CABANAS Y CABAJAL".

Does anyone know what this is?

Thanks,

Dillo

Its possible that was the method but I doubt it. I've heard of lots of humidifying methods used back then, even of people putting apple cores in the humidor.

Does it have a patent number on it? If so, you should be able to look that up and maybe find out a little more about it.

Anyways, nice find. Post some pics if you can.

hotpolantbill,

The one that I have is in the lower photo. It is unrestored and in fair condition.

I'm not sure how to get the link to the rest of the folks, but if you don't mind posting it or telling me how, I don't mind sharing.

Thanks again for the help!

Dillo
