The night of the skunk

Now I know that this post doesn't have much to do with cigars. Except that I was out smoking a Gurka (my first) at the time of the skunk attack. I had finished about 1/2 of it when I hear a bunch of commotion, and I see my 150# St. Bernard rolling around on the ground. My nostrils are suddenly enveloped by quite a pungent aroma. Unfortunately, it was not the Gurka in my hand. Yes, My wonderful pooches had rustled up a skunk, and got themselves skunked in the process. Problem is now my entire house reeks of this aroma, and if somehow this stench gets inside my new humidor or my cigars. Well.... .

Damn dogs.

Bath your dogs in hydrogen peroxide and baking soda. It is alot cheeper and less messy than the tomato paste route. Sorry about your misfortune, Good luck.

Also, add a little bit of dish soap. This helps cut the oil out of the skunk spray. Sorry 'bout your luck, it is just a matter of time until my lab wants to try to play with the "nice kitty".

Send your humidor and its contents to me. I'll keep them safe. :D

One other caution to keep in mind is that we have had more than our share of rabid skunks (confirmed late stage) in our neck of the woods. They may be seen in the daytime and not be afraid of dogs, etc. like they would be in a normal condition.

That sucks! I really feel for you. When I was a kid my poodle got into it with a skunk. I'm not sure who won the battle, but my family was on the losing end of the stick because our entire house smelled for weeks. That poor dog never did quite smell the same after that.

Nasty.

The worst thing my dog ever did was roll around in human poo.

I used to live in Houston and there was a large wooded area near my house. My dogs were pretty agressive with other animals so it was nice to just go to an area where nobody went to let them run around.
Well, one night I let them take off into the woods and when they returned, the female was covered in dark stuff. I thought it was just mud. But no.....it was poo. Human at that. Fricken bums!

Luckily, I had a 5 gallon bottle of water in the back of my Blazer, a towel (in case they got wet) and some Goop hand cleaner. I threw on some gloves and proceeded to clean her. My male just looked at her like she was stupid.
When I got her home I bathed her again with dog shampoo so her skin wouldn't get messed up.

Nasty night.

Yep, DD you got me beat on the nastiness. My only hope is your humidor will be here soon, and the I have not opened the cabinet that my new humi is in. The house smell was gone this am.
