Chicago burbs
Just wondering. Personally I favor the bullet punch, followed by the "v" cut. But since I've lost my v-cutter, I haven't found a replacement. And thus I've wondered if it is even done anymore? Online sites list mostly the guillotine type cutters, so I assume that's the most popular. For me, that seems to make my cigar fall apart (I know I shouldn't but I chew mine Clint Eastwood style). Hence, the bullet seems to keep the head together longer.

So, what's everyone's thoughts?

I use a Xikar guillotine cutter. I like it better than any other guillotine I've tried. I have never tried a V or a punch cutter. I'm hoping to try a punch cutter to see if there is a differance in the draw.

As a newbie I like the V-cut.. as I dont really know how far I should cut into the cigar w/ a gullitine

However, I am finding that I am starting to like torpedos a lot.. quite the pickle.

I'm partial to my Xikar guillotine, but I like to only pop the cap off the cigar. If you use this type of cutter, less is more. If the draw is too tight you can always snip just a little more, but for 90% of the cigars I cut there is no need to even cut the filler.

I like a punch best but will use my trusty Xikar when smoking a torp.

Interesting, thanks Capt.

Usually I carry a bullet punch with me everywhere I go unless I have a Torpedo, the punch allows me to retain as much of the cap as possible until finally it comes off (usually about 2/3rds of the way in) anyways. I am like doubleD, I gnaw slightly on my smokes so keeping the cap onas long as possible is pretty beneficial for someone like me.

Never used a V cuttter, probably won't start anytime soon, I'm happy with the punch and if need be, the guilotine although I may have buy a few cheapies and try the Capt's method.

I got a real nice Xikar for my birthday, and I must say - its WAY better than my 5 buck cutter!! 8) 8)

Now....where did I put it???

I have two Xikars that I use. I only cut the cap off and an a torpedo, I usually cut a 3/8 opening. I've tried single blades, v cutters, punches, my teeth 8) , and I always go back to the Xikars.

I'd probably use the pinch method if if I could, but alas am a nailbiter.

same.

im a punch kinda guy. i keep it on my keychain. never have i lost my keys.

i do have a guillotine but i find that to be messy cut no matter how clean it is.

I am like Quag, I am a nail bitter so no pinch for me, I have a Multi toll that I love and a Xikar gulliotene (Sp) that I use only

Pinch method. You get the most control. It can be tough with smaller ringed cigars and can't really be done with torp's.

The pinch method also forces you to get more hands on with the cap so you can get a better feeling for the construction of the cigar.
