Well, I guess its no surprise. Guillotine won hands down. I can see the satisfaction in using the tool itself, that's for sure. But I think I'll be in the minority and stick with the punch.

Oh, and the pinch method sounds interesting, nice to learn new things.

Like Kuzi16, I keep a punch on my keychain. Works great. I do use a guillotine for the larger ring gauges though. (Too much like drinking water through those silly little straws if I used the punch....but that might be just me....)

I haven't lost my keys and punch yet, but I wish I could say the same about my lighter. I want to thank the super super kind person that saw my predicament as they were leaving the bar, ran to their car, and brought back a torch lighter. All before I could get any of those crappy cardboard matches. (I was dead set on smoking that stick.....)

Hats off to you kind sir.

And a new lighter for me on Monday. :)

 I've done that many times before. I went to the gas station and bought a cheapo one of the times. I took it out of the package and went to go light up to discover that not only was it a torch lighter, but that it also was a vibrating torch lighter. It freaked me out so much that I jumped out of the chair and threw it. It did still work though, so at least it had that going for it. I don't really want to know why somebody would produce a vibrating torch lighter (keep your heads out of the gutters , but its still funny to give it to people when they ask for a lighter.

Usually I just use a Xikar double guillotine. On very large cigars and cigars with a fragile wrapper I'll often use a pocket knife to just cut a hole in the middle of the cap. It's similar to using a punch, but allows for whatever hole size I like. I also tend to do this on high end cigars, particularly if I'm not sure how tough the wrapper is.
Unless I'm in a "secure" area (airport/plane, courthouse, etc.) I've always got a mini Swiss Army Knife on my keychain, so I'm never without some sort of cutting device. Of course, the knife sucks for torpedos, so I always use a double guillotine on those unless I'm desperate.

I use a punch,,,,i have a guillotine but prefer the punch. unless i have a torp.
a couple of times i have forgotten or misplaced my punch i used an ink pen and used it as a punch,,,,lol, strange but true, it worked!!
i got the head of it wet in my mouth for a good minute and with a fine point ink pen, i just stabbed it in,,,looked like a factory hole and smoke pretty good,,lol

I use all 3 plus my teeth at times , I like a V cut on my Torps, & a Punch on the small ring coronas , & the Xikar on the robustos & churchills, , when I get a panatella I go for the V or just bite the SOB, , I have been known to chew all my cigars , so as far as a favorite, I guess it would be the V cut , I have a desk top V cut that gets a lot of use , I save the cuttings for the pipe hahaha

Enjoy, Vince

Vince,

Are you serious? you smoke the clippings in your pipe. Brother, all I got to say is that is hard core.

I use a Xikar double G. I love it and prefer to use it 95% of the time. Although the pinch method is fun to try sometimes. I am a nail biter so its tough for me.

.

Not all the clippings just the good stuff from Cuba & the Opus X , hahahahah, ( its a joke like the guy on the Chrysler commerical )

However I do smoke my "tasty "Butts in the pipe like the Monte #2's ( cuban ) & the occasional Opus X , & when I can get them the Davidoff Double R's .

Enjoy, Vince

Monday my boss gave me a cigar that someone gave to him. He decided he didn't want to try it, so he gave it to me. I didn't have my cutter with me that day, so after work I got in my car, got out my razor knife and used that. I carefully made a shallow cut all around the cap, and it just fell off. I was pretty pleased with myself.
The cigar was good too...it was a Montecristo double corona.

I do the same. But, I only do it with torpedo's. Especially CC's. I keep a pipe just for cigar caps.

Capt. Would you like me to save the trimmings from my V cutter for your pipe, all I V cut are the Trorps ! hahaha , No way I smoke them my self, why let any tobacco go to waste !
