Another reason why I return to cigar.com

Instead of paying customs charges, it might be cheaper for me to just make the hour and a half ride trip to buffalo and pick up some cigars there and bring it back to Canada.

Careful - they will take them at the border if you don't claim them and if you do they will tax you.
that said you can get caught 2 out of 3 times and still break even.

On a side note  I've sent a few packages of golf grips to Canada
seems they have no problem with Golf Grips

I don't think they're as careful when we return from the states as when we enter. Sometimes they treat everyone as if they're a criminal.

My buddy was going down there for shopping and he brought his little cousin who is around 7. At the border, the guards stopped them and interrogated the little kid to verify that my buddy didn't kidnap him or something -_-"

I deal with that same kind of crap every time I cross the border from Mexico back into California. The border agent always plays 20 questions with me as if he's gonna catch me in a lie. You gotta love SUV's nowadays with all the little places to hide otherwise legal items. I always find it funny when I get a U.S. customs agent that doesn't speak english too well. A friend of mine does it nicely...he always goes down to the duty-free shops at the border which by law you have to drive into Mexico and back into the states for a purchase to be valid. The van that follows him to the border always goes back before he crosses so he simply does a U-turn and forgoes any unnecessary search and interrogation. So far he has gotten away with it but he's just a lucky SOB.

How does that work? Wouldn't the van be on the other side of the border while he just turns around and heads back to where ever he came from? Sorry =P I'm a little lost

Once my friend leaves the duty free shop in California, the van follows him to the border. The driver from one particular shop is lazy and within a 1/2 mile of the border crossing he turns back and returns to the shop. There is one spot that has no fencing where my friend makes the u-turn. There's no security in that area during the day as they concentrate on the mass of traffic entering the U.S. Otherwise, with the security enforced post 9/11, you're looking at a 1 1/2 to 3 hr wait at the border. If I happen to visit the duty free shops, I usually just walk across because it is a lot quicker. Of course, this limits the quantity you can bring back, but it's much safer.

Oh I see. I wonder if that will work at the Canadian borders

I have had some bad problems in alberta as well. We only pay GST and the cigar tax, but lately ive also been charged PST (provincial sales tax) which alberta doesnt even have. So I have had to mail in for a refunds for that.

cigar.com purchase: 200.00

after a 300 dollar purchase i ended up paying 400$ canadian in extra fees. which is more than double !

I feel for you man. I'm not sure if you've read the earlier posts but I mentioned how I had a 150$CAN order (including shipping and any sort of US tax) and then when it came into Canada, they taxxed me 306$.
