I hate giving cigars a big rating... honestly I feel like it puts my credability on the line so I am always cautious and would consider myself a conservative when it comes to tasting cigars. However, today set a new mark. My scale ranges as follows:
<85 is Blagh
85-89 are all ranges of "good"
90-904 are all ranges of "excellent" (mostly ISOM or aged stock)
95+ are all classics (Only ISOM or aged stock)
Most of things I smoke I find between 85-89 and I give seldom 90+ wiht only maybe two cigars in my lifetime getting into the 95+ range.
Anyway, the last highly rated smoke I had was a 1995 Montecristo No.2 which I awarded 96 pts two years ago. Today I stumbled on another amazing smoke.
I grabbed a few boxes of the 1994 Bolivars that we are implementing into our aging room for sale and lit up the Churchill. My god, I was floored. 13 years has done amazing things to this cigar. Wood aromas with hints of honey and light spices. The cigar still had quite a bit of character and medium to full bodied aroma with an especially sharp finish. The cigar was perfectly well rounded, balanced, and complex.
94/100 pts (probably the highest rated non ISOM I have smoked)
I just picked up another box. Hopefully I did not get some kind of fluke stick!!! LOL
