Armpit of the world....Al Asad, Iraq
Just an update....
I've been here for two weeks now and I gotta say it's not too bad.
Yeah....RIGHT!
It sucked 5 years ago, it sucked a year and half ago and it still sucks today!
It's about 115 degrees, sand and dirt everywhere, however, the chow hall is fantastic, our rooms (cans) are big and have GREAT A/C and my command is stellar!
Funny story...
I get here with the main body and I quickly realize on our first day that I don't have an office. Nice right? So I go to our maint chief to find out WTF? He tells me that I'll be sharing office space with S-4. I then remind him that the career planner is supposed to have their own office...do to the privacy act and all. He says that he doesn't care. I then have to remind him that the "PRIVACY ACT OF 1974" states that any records maintained on individuals, to include social security numbers or maintained records of interviews need to be secured in a classified area with no outside access. And that any violation of this will result in a $5000 fine and 5 years in jail. I told him, "This is not just an inspectable Marine Corps Order...(which it is)...it is a FEDERAL LAW that I have my own office. He didn't seem to understand. Idiot.
So the CO, SgtMaj and myself start looking for a workspace. The only space available is...get this...and old head. So my office is now officially in the crapper.
Figures.
I'll make it work, though.
I brought some cigars out with me. Should last me about 4 months. More if I only smoke 1 or 2 a week. Not only that, the Haji shops out here sell ISOM cigars. However, only 1 or 2 of them sell real ones.
When I get my camera hooked up to my computer, I'll download some pics.
Talk to you soon,
Jeff
