So, I found myself asking myself "Self, how long will a cigar remain smokable after it has gone or been put out prematurely?"
Do you know what I said back to myself? I said "Self, let's find out."
At our paintball park here in the Old Dominion, we use tubes that are airtight for storage of paintballs. So, when I had to abandon a Partagas Black Label Classico early, I placed it in one of these tubes. (I allowed it to burn out, scraped off the ash, and blew through the stick before placing it in the tube.) Air tight, NO humidification device, just the stick.
I left it there for 2 weeks.
After walking past it and looking at it every time, I finally screwed up the courage to re-light it.
Opened the tube, no bad aroma. Slightly tobacco-ey and slightly smoke-y.
Put it to my lips, no bad taste.
Followed the ritual light-the-foot, blow, suck, blah blah. And guess what...
That was one HECK of a nice cigar.
As a watermark to judge against, I also lit another stick and smoked it at the same time, alternating between the two.
I don't know what this all means, but it was fun to try.
