Tried a new coffee yesterday, well a new 'old' coffee, but you'll have to read about that shall we say, at 'another time', for various reasons.
This is about a cigar. Again, it was a gift from a friend, and had been very well aged. I must have had this cigar for about two years, maybe even more, but I'm thinking about two years is right.
For a Non-Cuban cigar, especially one that's made to be smooth and somewhat mild, that can be a lot of extra aging. But the regular La Unica was always one of my favorites, didn't recall having any maduros before, maybe one, and I did not like the Cameroon, but it's worth another try if I get one I can age for a year or two.
But this La Unica Maduro was a cigar smoker's dream, at least this cigar smoker. If there had ever been any harshness in it, any bitterness, any muddling of the flavor profile, it was not apparent. This was a near perfect cigar smoking experience.
A 7x49 stick, I lit it at 1153 hours, and I finished it at 1354 hours on a glorious Dutchess County day where the temperature didn't reach the previous days' 71 but still hit a nice 67. Throughout this cigar a very complex flavor profile of pumpernickel bread, sweet earth, licorice and cocoa powder with a bit of pepper played on my palate. The smoke was smooth, the draw good, medium bodied and very rich flavored. It's no surprise that a Fuente manufactured cigar should be a good one, and last I heard, the La Unica's were a very inexpensive cigar.
