My first Cigar tasting event

Macanudo's were the cigar born out of the cigar boom of the 80's and 90's. It was blended to be bland and tasteless so that people who wanted to look cool by smoking cigars could smoke a cigar and not be overwhelmed by the "punch" of a real cigar... I believe is the line of thinking.

Ahh. Well...the cigar that I smoked wasnt bland by any means. It had great taste and aroma, medium bodied smoke.

macanoodles used to be decent but then as i have heard it they used up their good stash of tobaco too fast and started taking shortcuts to keep up with the boom.

Not so much short cuts as a total stop in production. In 1998 after the boom, they moved prodiuction from Jamaica to the Dominican Republic.

The event that I went to today was a La Gloria Cubana event. Was a little dull as the most of the normal guys who are the hardcore smokers like me who enjoy it for the cigar and not the status weren't there. Most were the people who got in during the boom and stayed in but still use cigars as more of a status thing. Was kind of annoying actually. But we did do a taste test with the three tobaccos used in the La Glorias to see what really makes a cigar's flavor which was really interesting.

The rep was a General Cigar rep and he was telling us how Macanudos don't have the Ligero (I think that was it--makes sense) because Macanudo is meant to be an extra mild cigar. I couldn't help but laugh out loud and everybody just looked at me like I was crazy.

I missed the last local event here in Richmond; gotta mark my calendar for the next one.

Hahah, nice.

Im looking at going to a Macanudo Embassador event here pretty soon. They are bringing one of their master rollers in to demonstrate the process, and we all get fresh stogies. Be interesting to see how a freshly rolled cigar tastes compared to one thats aged for a couple of months(even if its supposed to be a super mild cigar)
