i think i might sell my two small humidors and buy a larger one. they are both about 50 count size, one was a freeby from cigar.com with a box purchase and one was my first humidor. they come with a humidor element but no hygrometer, they didnt work anyway. one is light brown and the other is dark cherry wood. both are spanish cedar. some one make me an offer on one, both would be nice.

yea yea, i figured folk would want pics, i dont feel like it tonight, maybe tomorow lol.

What size are you thinking about getting?

thinking about a cooler dor that will hold about 15 boxes worth.

I have to say, it was one of the wisest purchases I made. Cost me like 30 bucks for a 72qt on sale before adding a CPU fan with speed controller and cigar oasis.

on second thought i better take my own advice and double what i think ill need and get one big enough for 30 boxes lol. that leaves plenty of room for the oasis.

How did you do the power, axe?

Dont sell your old humidors, DON'T!!! some day you will thank me for this bit of advice, some day , NO matter how big a humidor you have , you will need space to store some thing , I have 9 humidors right now , 3 are on loan to friends but I will get them back when they get there new humidors ( larger the better,)
I also keep a large "footlocker "style storage box for long term aging, complete with large lawn & leaf bags , & the blocks of green florist foam to keep the cigars moist , I check them once a month & keep a digital gage in the bag that keeps a record ot the high & low humidity & temp readings , & it hardly ever varried more than a few points up or down, STORAGE SPACE is the KING !!
Enjoy, Vince

Yes, break out the knowledge Axe! I was figuring it can't be too difficult. I have access to some old computer junk and I have been thinking about adding a cpu fan to my humidor for a long time. I wouldn't want it to run full speed...this is what has made me put off this project.

Well for this one I simply used an extra power supply that was collecting dust. I like to run it constantly since the risk of mold is greater in a cooler. It's one of those power adapters that lets you switch voltages, and I keep it on the 2nd lowest setting...just enough to move the air a bit. I ran the wire for the fan and the wire for the oasis through a small hole I drilled in the back of the cooler which was then sealed with aquarium grade silicone.
I've also toyed around with splicing into the oasis line, but it reduced the airflow in the oasis' fan, plus I wanted it to run constantly (which is why I opted for a CPU fan as it barely gives off any heat), and I wanted to regulate the fan's output.
I wasn't going for anything fancy like I did with my frigador, just make use of what was available.

Okay, dumb question time,
Why do you want the air to move, I thought the whole point was so that you had a sealed environment. If you are using glycol, isn't that supposed to inhibit mold?
I really like the PS idea, I always have one or two laying around and wondered what else a guy could do with them. You could also put some of those weird lights in there with a switch, and then when you open the door it would be like a fridge, the light would come on.

The cigar oasis I'm using in the cooler has been modified in that the foam inside the cartridge has been replaced with super absorbent polymers which contain no propylene glycol. To help retard mold formation on the polymers, I added a small amount of vodka to the distilled H2O.

As far as air movement, a cooler has a far greater seal than your typical humidor, which allows some air exchange to take place. Without any agitation of the air within this sealed environment, it can get stagnant not unlike standing water and develop mold, mildew or unpleasant odors.

That's a really good excuse to get more vodka.

Well jihiggs,
You gonna post some pics or what?
I have a friend that needs one or two so I'd like to show him some pics. :hypercolor:

Axe, how did you replace the foam (or where did you get the improved cartridge?) I need to get a new cartridge and this sounds like a good idea.

I had two led 120mm fans in my frigidor but took them out because they raised the temperature too much as my fridge can't be plugged in (not thermoelectric).

I have modified 2 of my cigar oasis cartridges in this way.
With one of them, I took a wire hanger and bent it to fit inside the opening of the cartridge. I then scraped and broke apart the foam which was then removed through one of the holes while I ran water through the other. Obviously this method takes a long time.
I took the easy way out with the other one. I simply used a razor to score a line around the seam in the cartridge, lifted the top off, popped out the foam, and put in the crystals. Took maybe 10 minutes as opposed to more than an hour.

So is it just a cartridge of those commercial crystals with vodka added? How do you know if it needs to be refilled?
