Hello! My name is Lexi. I have a couple of questions that I'm hoping you can help me out with.

My husband has just peaked an interest in cigars. He is looking to learn more about them so that he can speak intelligantly of them, and get even more satisfaction out of them. Do you recommend any books for the beginner that are to stuffy but at the same time not to vague?

My second question is this. My husband currently serves for the USAF. We just found out that he will be deploying the first week of December. He is extremly upset, not only that he is leaving, but more importantly that he will be missing our 5 month old's first Christmas. I am planning on getting him some cigars to periodically send over to him. Hoping that nice gifts from home will help make the time pass faster for him. Does anyone have any recommendations? With me being a stay at home Mom, and living off of a military budget, we don't have to much that I can spend on the really expensive ones.

I would really appreciate any information and help you could offer! Since this is an interest he has, I too want to learn about it all. Thanks in advance!

Lexi

Haha...military flocks to this board.. I love it!

For reading material, a subscription to Cigar Aficionado would be a great idea. Has lots of information for new guys to seasoned cigar smokers. There is a book also available that would be good and enjoyable to read is Cigar Aficionado's Cigar Companion. Ive read through several pages in this book, and am actually wanting to pick up a copy for myself here pretty soon.

The magazine can be found at most big bookstores, and if you are looking to go ahead and get a subscription for him, you can do so via pullout in the magazine, as well as online at http://www.cigaraficionado.com .

The book my be found here, and possibly at a local tobacconist.

I cant help in the book dept. However, if he is going overseas I would go for some cusano 18 for something nice or if you want to get him as many sticks as possible, get some flor de oliva bundles.

A CA subscribition is pretty inexpensive and will bring him a great cigar "pick me up" for a year (6 issues.)

The Flor de Oliva bundle suggestion is a great one! Also don't forget to look at the Cigar.com Label cigars on the Cigar.com website. Great cigars at an inexpensive price.

I second the cigar companion. Its a great way to learn about new cigars. The Flor de Oliva'a are good.

Reading here on the boards is a great way to pick up on a wealth of knowledge. Check your PM's, I have a couple suggestions for you.

so, where is he headed, and how soon will you know his address? I'm sure there are a lot of guys that would be willing to stick a couple of smokes in the mail to him, from time to time.
Let us know how to get them to him.

Actually, if he is shipping out, look at the cigar of the month club. If he is still learning it is a great option and he will get 5 cigars every month.

Welcome to the board, Congrats on your baby!!

Magazines are a great way to learn, with the different articles, I would suggest Smoke Magazine and the European Cigar Cult Journal, the latter of the two is strictly cigars! Books, there is a ton of books at any book store, they are all great resources....

The Cigar of the Month Club is a great way to sample a large variety of smokes, some he may have never even thought of trying, it's a great way to wet the whistle....

I really appreciate all of the help. I will check out those books and magazines. I'm really excited about learning all of this stuff with him!
Hornetguy- Thank you so much. I don't have his address for over there yet. They change his location of deployment daily I think.. Joys of the military! :x I really appreciate it, you have no idea! Little things like that even from folks they don't know makes all the difference in the world to them.

That sampler sounds like a terrific idea.

Thanks so much.

Keep the smokes suggestions comin'!

Lexi :)
