Lone Wolf, that is.

Most of these suck.

OOPS, I DID IT AGAIN!!!!

Hey, can a Moderator say "suck" around here? I think I'm about to find out.

One thing I found out after I smoked that delicious Lone Wolf Toro Monday morning after leaving work is that the wrapper was sun grown. Wal, shut mah mouth and stick chili peppers in mah eyes!!!

I never knew. :?

Quite early Monday morning, I had to walk through an almost deserted Manhattan to a client's some distance away from my regular job. It was breezy but pleasant, with clouds dotting the sky and blocking out some of the sun. I ordered a box of these about a year or two ago, real cheap, and found that the percentage of hits and misses on these is stacked way in favor of the misses. But sometimes you find a good one.

And this didn't look like any of the ones from the box I bought because instead of being a light Connecticut Shade wrapper, it was just a shade :D darker than that. I knew that some of my internet cigar friends had also sent me some of these, not all of which were from the same blend, since Lone Wolf did have more than one blend during its run. But, after lighting it and smoking it along the walk to the client's I didn't give it much thought until the cigar began to taste really good, almost too good, during the second half of the smoke as I approached Broadway and 70th Street, near my client's apartment, and almost at the end of the cigar.

Throughout most of the cigar it had a flavor of pumpernickel herb bread, with a bit of a smoky flavor as well. This cigar had great construction with a nice draw, and as I got to the second half and past that, wonderful, bold flavors of ginger, brown sugar, creme brulee and sweet, milky coffee played on my palate throughout until the crescendo at the end, of huge, creamy earth flavors before finishing with it 44 minutes after the start. I was quite impressed, perhaps the best Lone Wolf I'd ever had, of the few good ones.

And then, after leaving the client's later on, I reached in my pocket, still curious as to what went on, and I read the words Sun Grown on the band. And then it hit me. The introduction and proliferation of the sun grown wrapper, usually an Ecuadoran wrapper grown from Connecticut seed, in the Non-Cuban cigar business over the past few years since the end of the boom, has made for some very flavorful and successful sticks on the market.

Oh. Sun grown wrapper. Well, that explains it all. And I did think I heard something about Lone Wolf still being in production, but no longer being supervised by Jim Belushi and Chuck Norris, who started the line during the boom, so I'm not sure which era this was from. But it sure was good, and that's what counts.

I've found them to be hit or miss as well. I will never admit to the purchase, as my brother in law gifted them to me. All in all, I guess they're not bad for the price.

Careful Bloof!

They'll start comparing you to me!!!!
