Guys,

I attended Capt.'s sit-down last night and I want to tell you, for those of you who couldn't make it, you missed an absolutely awesome event. The turnout was great, at one point I estimated well over 50 people enjoying our host's generous hospitality, including many forum members and guests of members who have all said they will be joining soon.

You'll probably hear more reports from other members who attended, but I'll give you my take on the evening:

First of all, the food was great!! I will tell you right now that when it comes to cooking dead animals, the Capt. knows his stuff. The man can flat-out barbecue with the best of them. His bar-b-que ribs disappeared in a heartbeat and I'm sure they will become legendary in this forum as time goes by. Good job Capt!

As for the cigars. . . they were incredible in both quality and quantity. Alex went over-the-top in providing an unbelievable array of top notch smokes to everyone who attended (although I'm still looking for those Graycliffs, Alex). Upon arrival, we were handed such an incredible package of cigars, hats, cutters, and even more cigars that we had to turn around and take them back to our vehicles, because there was no way we could carry all of it around with us all night. Outstanding!

But here's what I really think made the night so special. Sure, the food was great, the beer cold (did I mention the beer?), and the cigars plentiful, but what really struck me was the camaraderie and friendliness of everyone there. I mean, here were a lot of people, from different parts of the state and country, from different backgrounds and professions, meeting each other for the very first time, who got along as if we've all known each other and been friends for years. It was, in a word, awesome! That, my friends, is what I truly think is the best part of this hobby of ours.

Again, a huge thank you to Ryan and his lovely wife, for there incredibly generous hospitality. To Alex, for making the trip from Chicago with an overly abundant supply of great smokes (did I mention the Graycliffs?), and to all the AmBack members who attended, making this one of the best get-togethers of any kind that I've ever attended.

Dennis

Here's to The Capt, and Alex for the cigars. Sounds like a great time, as it was promised to be, and from the way Capt has spoken before, I knew that his chef talents were no jive. You can't fake being a good chef, because when you're bold enough to invite a bunch of people, if you ain't good, the WHOLE COUNTRY will know about it. :cryinlaugh:

Here's to the camaraderie and good will of the worldwide cigar smoking community, of which the Capt is a card carrying, stand-up member of the highest order. :wine: :cheerschug:

Man, Dennis....
You killed me with that description! Can you make me feel any worse about missing the event....

raggin, fraggin, snaggin......

Sorry I missed it , I had planed to go but things just got busy here , & with the price of Gas , I needed to make a few extra bucks , I did have a cigar & a scotch & did think about the trip ! maybe next time ! , Enjoy, Vince

Sounds like it would have taken me years to smoke the cigars Alex gave away. Heck, I haven't even smoked the El Cobre torpedo yet, and I got that last June, April, something like that. :cryinlaugh:

Well - back home in Pittsburgh - the drive wasn't too bad.

I had a fantastic time. Ryan and Alex are two excellent hosts and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. You've already heard about the cigars, and most of you have seen pictures of Capt's humidor, but in person it is even better.

And don't get me started on the food - if I could afford it, I'd hire him as a personal chef.

Thanks again Ryan and Alex!

Interesting you should pop up, Cybrus. I just lit a Don Bienve Limited Reserve Churchill at 1653 hours, and was thinking that when I'm done, I'll have to let you know about it. It's been about 7-8 months, and it's my last one. So far, pretty tasty, tobacco, smooth chocolate wafer flavors, lots to go on it. Glad you could make it to Capt's place.

Just got home, and for those that were there I can't tell you happy I am to have had a 7 hour travel day!

Ryan and Alex did a great job getting everything ready to make the even go perfect. The food went so fast I didn't even have any pulled pork before it was gone. The guy can cook! It was fun to meet all the other members and also some future members. Can't wait till next time

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone that attended. It was nice to finally put a face on the names, and to see everyone together having a great time. Alex, Bildo and I had a great time on Friday, andwe enjoyed several cigars together. Than you all for the kind words, and for all of the gifts that were received. Cybrus, thank you for the Macallan Cask. That was some of the best cask strength I have had. Bildo, thank you for the 1998 Opus. Thank you to Cyberpsyko for the wine. John, the home brew was excellent! And Alex, THANK YOU for all of the hard work and donations that we received. I had a great time, and even though it doesn't always have to be over-the-top get togethers, you are ALL welcome back to my place ANYTIME. BBQ is on me.

As everyone has said, it was a great get-together. The best food I've ever had off a grill. The cigars were indeed very nicely put together and Alex and Ryan went over the top with them. And the Graycliffs--well, how are they Ryan? Above all else, the comraderie is amazing in this culture and especially this group. Thanks to all involved.

Just another word of thanks to Ryan for hosting a great get together, the food was awsome, and to Alex for the super grab bags of cigars. Most of all it was a pleasure meeting you all and having a few smokes. This was truly a memorable event, can't wait till the the next get together.

 :wine:

I don't know if I say it any better than anyone else, but Tony and I had the best time! So much so, that about 7pm on Saturday, he called our wives to have them keep on shopping cause we were gonna be a long time getting home! :) Capt, thank you so much for being our host; and Alex, thank you so much for caring as much as you do about your customers.

I met some really great people and I'm looking forward to smoking some great cigars with you all very soon!

I'm glad to see that you all had a great time. :grumble:

I really wish that I could've been there.

It's too bad that you all can't come to Vegas in July. Hopefully I get to see Alex and Thor while I'm there. I was able to be one of the lucky few to win tickets to the CAO Party on t he 17th.
My wife, my two brothers and a couple of friends (Including my buddy Greg) will be coming as well.

Now get some pics up, Capt, to show us all how great a time it was!

IF any of you get home and found that your humidors were too full to accomodate the generous amount of premium sticks please feel free to send your extras my way.
i offer this service to you for free.

Glad you guys had a great time. Sounds like a lot of fun, and I'm impressed with Alex and Capt just from hearing about this.

And that Kuzi! Can a guy get more generous? I don't think so :p
