Howdy Folks,
Been really busy - & did something a little crazy.
Last weekend was our big 4th of July party (every year we have one)
this year was a July 3rd party.
We did Surf & Chirp.
Crabs (Blue crabs) Steamed Clams & Chicken.
Well friday afternoon I head tot he store to buy Chickens.
I stop at a yard sale & there are 3 tables filled with BEAUTIFUL Glass.
All kinds of stuff - Canlde Sticks, Pitchers, Vases, Glasses - & on.
I pick up 2 pieces I think Misa will like and the guys says $5.
I start grabbing stuff - this ones $5 that one is $10 - I'm thinking the $5 piece is worth 5x that and ask the guy what he wants for everything?????????????????
He says everything is more than what is on the table.
We are standing at his Mom's house that had just passed & she collected glass her whole life.
I ask if I can see the whole collection.
Well this house is packed full of glass - glass in every color.
There is 1000 pieces stuffed into every corner, table, shelf, bed & piles on the floor.
I'm thinking damn this is a lot of money.
I ask to buy everything - thinking there is money to be made!
Long story short the next morning buy 1000 pieces of glass - & head home to prepare for our party.
I just spent 4 days wrapping, packing & moving this stuff.
Tonight I start to photograph everything -
I have a big auction house in NY wanting to sell mit for me as well as the largest collector of Viking glass interested as well.
I'm sure I have doubled my money if not 5-10 times over.

I also understand why the son w=didn't want to deal with this -
he knows he gave me a good deal, but needs to sell the house & had his hands full doing other things.

Here are a few bad pictures of some stuff I pulled out for Misa.
Not the the best of what was there, just in a color she Loves.

So with the river project, My Mom visited for a week, a BIG Party & this Glass thing going on I have had little time for anything -
Like my real job!

Just wanted to stop in and say hello - I have read a little, but
my time is very limited these days.

Here are a few pictures:

I know the pictures are not very good -
I will be setting up a phot lab to shoot better pictue tonight!

You sure are a busy person!

And dang! that's a LOT of glassware!

In my college years I could have come up with a couple of good ways to use the long and shkinny pieces.

Glass goes up in price pretty steadily and is not cheap right now. An auction house most likely is your best bet. Those apothecary jars/perfume bottle bring big money especially. Nice score!

We had a similiar thing happen some years ago. An eldrely lady died and left her house to the Rescue Squad that I was a member of. When we went to look at the property, we discovered that she collected depression-era glass. Every room in the house had piles of the stuff, some still in the original cartons! This was in the early 1980's, and we cleared over $100K just for the glass at auction. It was worth more than the house. :D

Without seeing what you have, I couldn't say for sure, but yeah, I think you did awesome. I'm having my auction for the contents of my shop this month and the depression glass is what will probably make the most money.

At the time, we first considered having a huge yard sale! However, one of our members collected depression-era glass, and was quick to inform us as to how disastrous such a sale would be.

most important, is that a camel phone in that first picture?

No -
it is a wooden carved Camel & an Antique phone
standing next to each other!

Misa & I collect Camels (long story) so instead of a wooden Cigar Indian we bought a Camel actually 2 I have another smaller one
in my smoking room.

Nice score Loren!! That's how I bought my first car....1967 Camaro SS. An old lady had her grandson living with her, and he died in a car accident. The car was in pristine shape and she wanted 1500.00 for the car....I gave he 5K and still ended up wayyy ahead of the game.

Good luck on the off loading....Sounds like a celebratory box of something from Castro is coming!

We'll I like it. It looks cool. Good luck on the items.

Funny ypu say that -
You can see him through the window in the driveway.
So many time's I have jumped thginking "who is in my house"
I always figured he would do the same to someone there for the wrong reasons!
Nothing like a life sized person standing in the front hall!

I'm hoping to be done unpacking everything today.
I'll take a few group photo's so you can see the level of madness!
