What Did You Smoke Today

Just finished the Gran Habano No. 5 Churchill. It has a nice band and the corojo wrapper had a few small veins. The prelight taste reminded me of grapefruit :dunno: Anyone else notice any citrus? It was full-bodied but still a few steps below the Camacho Corojo's. For the price of 5.99 locally and 5.00 on cigar.com, it's a good smoke. The only complaint was all the bits of tobacco I had to keep spitting out. I might pick up a couple more to see how some age treats them, but as long as there are still Cusano and Camacho Corojo's to be had... :)

Yesterdy had a Punch Gran Puro.... I'll have to give this one a try again as I had consumed several beers at a party and the cigar did not get my full attention, although I remember it as a full bodied, not as spicy as I had expected, but complex, and not harsh at all...Did not burn very even, but, all in all a very good cigar!!

Axe, I'm quite familiar with the No.5's as I'm 2 sticks away from finishing a box but as an answer to your post, no, I've never experienced any citrus pre-light aromas. Usually, for me at least, they have a really pungent scent that reminds me of vegetation in places of high heat and humidity.

Yeah, I noticed a vegetal quality also. I guess I'll have to try again to compare the results. I have to go back to my local shop anyway
to pick up the 1/2 dozen cans of LAVA butane that I left behind the other day...I didn't want to look greedy but...

Had my dad over today for the "holiday." Before dinner he grabbed one of my Opus. Hey, it's Father's Day, I wasn't gonna say NO! 8)
I fired up a Diamond Crown Maximus (thanks alot...you know who you are ), Now I'm gonna have to pick up many more of these. :grumble:

After dinner we both lit up Hemingway Masterpiece maduros, the first 2 from a box I've been aging for a few years...very nice.

BLASTERPIECES! Hand me one and I'll blast it to pieces, too. 8) haha

The No.5's I recommend you store at a lower humidity. I find that they just burn better and more evenly at the lower RH's. At 70/70, they tend to canoe a lot... a lot.... annoyingly a lot. :argh:

Looks like I'll be storing a 5'er with my Opus and Diplomas. I keep them between 62-64%

I kepp all my Fuente's in their own humidor, Opus, Anejo's, Hemmy's etc...

The RH is at a constant 63% and I have not had a poor burning cigar yet.....

Some cigars just need to be smoked slower too, I think some people suck a cigar down so fast that it can cause some burn issues as well as getting hot...just my $.02, but from my experience, all cigars burn better at a lower RH..

Then there are cigars that just don't burn evenly at all.

Yeah, I keep mine around.... 64, 65ish? Yeah.

I just finished a Camacho Corojo Dark Monarca. What a difference 2 weeks of rest makes :)
No burn issues this time around and the draw was perfect.
Diploma is still the #1 Camacho for me, but I'll be keeping some of these around for sure.

It's always best to let cigars that you just brought home rest for a while because the RH at stores are usually a bit higher just so they won't dry out.

Yeah I know, but I couldn't wait any longer to try one.
But that's why I buy at least 5.
Needless to say, the remainder are resting comfortably in
the same cabinet as my Opus, Diplomas and others with a
tougher (thicker) wrapper. I've finally been able to get my
Opus to burn very evenly with the RH between 62-64%.

Yesterday I had a Padron Fuma for the ride home from work. First one I've tried. Not bad.

On the ride to work this morning I had a Torano Dominican Selection Carlos VII. A little too mild for me I think. Faint chocolate, nutty taste, a little earthy. Good burn and draw. Good amount of smoke, aroma was mild.

Spent a wonderful hour ousde after supper with a Sol Cubano Corojo Reserve Robusto....very enjoyable. Will be in my rotation!!

I had a CAO Extreme Belicoso on the ride home today. Pretty good stick. Nice aroma, good draw, lots of smoke.
