bourbon!!! Just finished my definitive tasting of this one last night, a bottle I've been going through at about the same time I've been tasting the Old Forester Birthday Bourbon 2006 and the Vintage Ryes. That has pretty much, along with a bit of Knob Creek and a secret, high proof, unfiltered rye release been the gist of my "season" so far. To be sure, there has been, and will be before the season is over, other items on the menu, but the aforementioned are all new to me, and a focus of my tastes this season.

And speaking of "season," don't we all just love how bourbon/rye and football season all seem to go together?

And in the spirit of the season, I have just finished my thoughts on the fairly new 1792 Ridgemont Reserve bourbon, an eight year old, 93.7 proof bourbon that would be a perfect bourbon to serve, along with some others of course, depending on how big your party is, at the Super Bowl!!!

Yes, this bourbon, which hits the mouth with soft notes of oak followed by a big splash of cinnamon, perhaps with a hint of paprika, then gets coated in spicy wildflower honey from upstate New York and Vermont, will also be a hit at your Super Bowl Party. It has a long finish which sometimes provides a hint of straw, along with sauteed mushrooms. It has a remarkable similarity to Knob Creek upon entry, but less snap and clarity, although the flavors here are very nice.

The flavors were nice enough to place this in the No. 22 spot on my Top 25, finally knocking Basil Hayden's out of the Top 25, no slouch at No. 26, considering I'm now sipping my 78th bourbon as we speak, perhaps the cheapest bottle I've ever bought. More on that at some future point.

Since it's Christmas time I was just wondering.......

Which one do you recommend for the Bourbon Balls???????????

Wow. I've only heard of those. I've had rum balls, but never bourbon balls. I'd have to say, knowing we're talking chocolate here, I'd have to say the 1792 Ridgemont Reserve would work very well with that recipe. Some others on my Top 25 that might work with bourbon balls would be . . .

Nos. 1-5, 7, 8, 13, 17, 20, 21, and the aforementioned new No. 22.

Bourbon balls-----Much like Rum balls----only with Bloofy's favorite spirit :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
