Bourbon evaporates at about the rate of 3% a year while aging. Anything that gets to be 15, 16 years old leaves only about half of what went in to the barrel. At 23 years old, right you are, there's almost nothing left. In the meantime, they've been paying employees and using warehouse space for 23 years. Yes, it HAS to cost a lot even if it sucks, like the bottle I bought. I hear the owner of the distillery knew it sucked, but what was he to do, dump it in the river? You've got to sell that stuff. Two friends of mine loved it, said it tasted like the Grant's scotch they were drinking 30 years ago. At $211.82 for the bottle I bought, I won't be going back for another, even if this batch turns out to be the best tasting bourbon of all time.
