OK, Been running this Humi at 65% for about a year. All of the sudden this week, I'm fighting for humidity, I mean fighting, just ain't getting anywhere with straight water.
125 ct desktop with two standard credo's.
It never dawned on me that the glycol solution may need recharged. I picked some up today. I figuring this is the fix.
I just wanted to give a "heads up" to you guys still doing it the old fashioned way. How old is your gycol solution?
By the way, I did place an order with Heartfelt Ind. yesterday.

i can give testimony for those beads, since i started using them, my humis have been rock solid. you dont even need a hygrometer with them. just keep an eye on them and add water when the beads get white.

I went with a 65% humi tube for my size humi. We'll see how that works.
How do you add the water to the tubes anybody know, Just spray the tube with distilled water?
I'm gonna need moisture, so I'll have to add H2O.

Naw you want to smell stinky smell my gambeson

I used to use the glycol solution, but don't any more because what happens is the solution will actually start to clog your humidifier. I had a problem with humidity and solved it by replacing my humidifiers and then only using distilled water.

For those of you who are contemplating silicon beads, please consider the much cheaper alternative to Climmax beads (or whatever brand Heartfelt is selling): Exquisicate Pearl Fresh cat litter beads. They are chemically the exact same thing as the high priced beads and cost a lot less. I have them in several of my humidors and they are holding at a perfect 63 to 65%

VAn, so these beads regulate by putting moisture in or taking it out dependant on the need? (I'm trying to wrap my brain around putting Kitty Liter in my Humi :) )

Can you get that cat litter at Wally World? I have never heard of them before, and would like to try an alternative to the old sponge.

Thanks for the info!

First Hi Van! (Van is a friend good of mine)
& Knows a lot! about cigars- he speaks truth.
I'll try and dig up a thread he has on how to set them up.
I know a lot of people have used them and are very happy!

I bought 1/2 a pound of Heartfelt beads for around $17.00. They seem to be working good, and the price seems reasonable. I don't see price as much of an option or choice, when it comes to humidity. For the amount of money I'm starting to spend on cigars(my wife reminds me daily), it seems crazy to skimp on the humidifier, when I spend so much on what needs the correct humidity. The 1/2 pound of beads should last me a long, long time. the only reason I'll have to buy more, is if I buy another humidor. Just a thought.

i bought a pound of those beads, its enough for my cooler and two desktop humidors. they are perfect! i sound like a spokesman for heartfelt lol.

I know it sounds crazy but its essentially the same product. If this is your planned course of action in your everchanging humidor, his thread should be required reading.

Hi, VAn. I bought a JUG od pearl fresh (ingredients: Silica sand, O2,H2O) I was trying to "season" them in a tuper type container. I put the 1/2 pound I needed in along with a shot glass of D water and a hygrometer. over night the RH dropped to about 25%. so I sprayed some more D water on them and closed it back up. I could not seem to get the RH to come higher than about 50%. Am I doing something wrong? PLEASE help..hehe. I read your thread on this in cigarwise, but still having some trouble.

BTW, I got the pearl fresh at PetSmart... a little over 7 lbs for around $12

Like the higher priced product the Pearl Fresh litter beads regulate the humidity by releasing moisture when the humidity gets too low and absorbing it when the humidity gets to high.

When when too much water evaporates from the beads, they need to be "recharged" with a water source, either applied directly to them or in a separate bowl, glass or sponge.

If they are overcharged with water they can be dried out with a hair dryer.

First you need to be sure that your hygrometer is accurate.

Assuming it is, the only thing you can do is to add more water -- without soaking the beads -- and keep trying.

well, maybe I jumped the gun in ordering those heartfelt beads. Oh, well... guess I will just have to get more humidors!!

I will try the pearl fresh again, and see if I can get it worked out
