Bob, shin splints suck and are hard to get rid of without resting. I had shin splints pretty bad when I first started running. Just be aware of how much you run and how fast you run and you can keep the pain at bay. Good on ya for running, it is a great sport.
emeisner, sorry to hear about your toe injury. Nothing worse than being forced to not run. It has been a while since I last posted to this thread. 2007 was a great year for me, running-wise. I did 3 half-marathons and a full marathon. I worked a lot this past year on my speed. I have gone from running a 10 minute mile to running around the low 8's, high 7's....very excited about that. I have an ultra-marathon in early March coming up (31.1 miles). After that, since I'm on the west coast I want to run Big Sur Marathon...right on the coast, so cool. Good to hear from all you runners out there. Keep up the miles!
