Anyone try this

So Cal
I know it's not a cigar, but one of my favorite beverages with a fine cigar is single malt. Has anyone tried the Macallan 15 years that they sell at Trader Joe's under their name? Anyone have any info on this?

Thanks

All I know about it is that Macallan is considered a fine single malt no matter which one you buy. I have heard that the 15 is a perfect budget-minded single malt with great flavor as well.

Thanks for the quick response Bloof, I may just have to pick up a bottle.

You'll never be disappointed with Macallan!
I've had the 12, 15, 18 and 25 year.

All are fantastic!

If you become a lover the stuff, and I'm sure you will, get a bottle of the 25 and hang on to it. I just finished the bottle that I had for 6 years just last month on my birthday.

I'm saving to buy another.

if you are refering to the 15 y/o "Fine Oak" it is very good. It is not aged in sherry casks as are the normal Macallans. Is Trader Joes an independent bottler??

Sounds like I'll definitely be picking up some very soon. I'm not sure about being an indy bottler, but I'm gonna find out.

I agree with all!! Macallen was one of my first introductions into single malts and I have held everything else up to it! I have a 10 year oak which is smashing, I 15 year sherry which is smooth and wonderfull and I have had the good fortune of enjoying a few fingers of the 25, and well, needless to say I'm with the Devi Dog himself...Saving for a bottle!!!

Can't go wrong my friend...Proceed without reservation...And Oh by the way....Fuentes go really well with it! 8)

I've just never understood it all. I can't stand the taste of any scotch or whisky. I just don't find anything enjoyable about the flavor. I don't drink coffee for the same reason. I don't mind the taste of many alchols straight or in well drinks. I'm a huge fan of flavorful and hoppy beers, but i just haven't been able to get on the single malt boat.

I realize posting in this thread is like someong coming onto Amback and saying they hate cigars and don't understand why we smoke them. The question here is what's appealing enough to spend large sums on this libation.

Guess its the same question to pose to all of those who enjoy smoking the cuban cigars....Why spend the money or go through all the trouble when there are others to be had....

Different Strokes for different folks, and I happen to be a double offender in this thread!

Scotch is as they always say and acquired taste, though I have always enjoyed small batch whiskey forever....So, I would say, if you don't like it, then stay away....money stays in your pocket longer that way!

NO SOUP FOR YOU!!!!!!

I for onw Love Scotch, Iike the smokieness, the flavor everything, But expecting everyon to like it is not possible. So it's okay Motion just sit back with you macadoodles and leave the Scotch to the men. (and women Sorry Brenda I forgot that you like scotch)

To me the 25yo Macallan is the bomb! The Balvenie 12yo is a double barrel aged similar to Macallan's fine oak. The only difference is Balvenie has been doing it for years. I think the single barrel 15yo Bal is awesome.

DD is introducing me to ports, and I gotta say that a tawny port with a cigar is damn good. :D

I did a lot of research when Axe brought this up before, but didn't think it appropriate to post links here. If you Google "Trader Joe's, Macallan 15" you will run into a lot of web site chat forums, like this one, where knowlegeable whiskey fans are discussing this item. I'm sure you'll find out a lot by checking those places, for anyone who's really curious. I find it interesting that very quietly Trader Joe's is threatening to become the Walmart of the upscale food/beverage market. Very, very interesting.

Motion,
I think there is one main reason you don't like any of these hi-test libations....

(wait for it Kelvin...)

Cause you are 16... :rotflmao: :grumble: :shame:

If ever there were words to live by.

Bloof hit on a good point. Lately I find myself going to TJ's more and more for of all things their selection of German Rieslings. The ones that I've picked up should easily sell for 3 times as much.

As far as the Macallan...they had a 12 year and a 15 year. I picked up 2 bottles of the 15 year for 3 Hamiltons, 1 Washington and 99 red Lincolns each

At the Single malt scotch society I was able to try some thing I never get to try. One was a macallan replica of a 17-- scotch they had found $380. Another good one that is a macallan cask strength $55.

I love the Belvinie, when you say double barrel are you saying double wood? If so it does rock and very reasonable. I have tried several other Belvinie the 21 and 25 which rocks also out of my rang at $280 and $3--.

Have fun
Martin

Macallan is good, but personally I'm an Islay fan. My selection's not all that big- I think I've got 4 bottles. Talisker <something> anniversary, Talisker 10, Caol Isla 12, and Macallan 10 cask strength. I've tried all kinds of stuff at the Scottish Pub around the corner, but keep coming back to the Islay stuff when I pick up a bottle.
I think I like the peat flavor, as my top two favorites are Talisker and Caol Isla. Talisker is peat + smoke, and Caol Isla is just peat all the way.
Young Talisker can be a bit on the rough side... 10yo doesn't go down all that easily sometimes. Well, at least not neat. It smooths out a lot with age though, and the 18 is very nice. Caol Isla on the other hand is pretty smooth for a 12yo.
