Beads and Credo

I am thinking about replacing the foam in my credo with beads since the credo is just sitting around collecting dust and the beads are taking up space in the bottom of my humi. I think I have read that a couple people have done this. My question is, what would be a good thing to put in the front of the credo so that the beads don't fall out that won't prevent them from working their magic? I was thinking about cutting up some pantyhose and gluing it in there. Does this sound like a good idea? Any better ideas out there? Its a rectangular credo. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Either pantyhose or thin foam. I wouldn't glue the pantyhose though. Just make a little pouch/baggie for the beads.

Thanks for the reply. I decided to go with a fish filter that I could cut up. It looks functional, so now I just have to see whether it will work properly. Two other things as a side note:

1. Is it odd that I pretty much have to add water to my beads every day or every other day to keep the humidity up? The temp in my humi is 68 or so and I live in Michigan (weather.com says the humidity right now is 39%. Any insight would be appreciated.

2. I just got my first order from c.com, which was a mixed sampler of the house brand labels. The website said that it was supposed to be 5 churchills, but it came instead with 2 churchills and a cameroon torpedo, a red label corona and a blue label toro. I called and talked to Tim and I said nothing more than what I just typed and he told me he was sending me three churchills free of charge. Just have to tip my hat to the way this place is run. That's first class and I can't wait to place my next order.

Those guys at C.Com really know what they are doing when it comes to customer service. I have talked to both Tim and Donny and They were answering questions, making suggestions it always has been a positive experience for me.

Cigar.com treated me right and it sounds like they treat everybody with the same respect. This is a well run business.

I've done the credo bead thing too. I found a fine piece of window screen. worked better than panty hose. Use stainless steel screen, or the heavy/rigid nylon screen.

Thats a good idea too...I'll have to give that a try if the fish filter thing doesn't work out.

alright the fish filter didn't work...for some reason it didn't allow the moisture through even though it looked porus. Just wanted to mention that in case someone else were to try this. I'm on to Jesse's idea now...

Heartfelt Industries makes a 150 count and 300 count Credoish device. It's an attractive aluminium case the size of a Credo Persicion 70 but half as thick. It's filled with 60%, 65% or 70% beads. It's compact, attractive and easy to refill. I love them. IMHO they are worth the price.

Check them out

Thanks man...that'll be next if this doesn't work out. I think the only issue now is whether I have enough beads in there. I'd rather put that 30 bucks to some sticks if I can. So far the credo came with the humi and I had to buy screen for three bucks, so I'm doing alright. My fiance thinks I'm nuts, but thats basically status quo :p

It will vary a little between bead makers, but it's about 1oz of beeds to humidify 75 cigars. Let us know if you get it to work out.

Once again it varies a bit depending on size of the beads but there's no need to be exact. 1/4 cup should work just fine for up to 150ct humis.

thanks for all the quick replies tonight Motion...if that is the case I should have plenty in the credo. I'll update later on how its working for those who are interested

Alright Motion, you really like that little credo device from Heartfelt? I got my homemade one to work, but it only keeps the humidity for a day and a half or so. It doesn't make any sense since it has plenty of beads in it, but whatever, logic isn't gonna keep my sticks in good shape. I am back to using a tuperware container that is taking up waaaay too much room in my humi. How long does your Heartfelt credo hold the humidity constant? I have a 120-150 count. If I spend the extra $8 and get the bigger one, will it hold the humidity constant for a longer period of time? I would appreciate any insight into the device from anyone who has one. Thanks!

I fill the one in my Tupperdor once every 3 months or so....but I don't oftem open that one up. The one I have in my desktop humi I fill about once a month.

I have been using an empty cigar tube about half full for my Humi's and Tupperdoors - keeps solid at 65% now for about 2 months. I would suspect that maybe your hygometer is off. Did you salt test it? Did you season the humidor for a long enough time first?
Try putting a shot glass in there with distilled water, and see how that goes.

Keep us posted, and good luck brother!

Yea I seasoned it for a couple of days and then everything looked good and I put some sticks in there. At that point I was just using the credo that came with it (a rectangular one) and the rh was staying up pretty well. I ordered the 65% beads a week later and put them in there with the credo, thinking they would play off one another with the beads not letting it get to high in there. Turned out I was wrong and the rh got to about 74, so I took the credo out and just left the beads in there (in a tupperware container). The rh fell back to where it should have been, but only for a day or two, and then I had to add water. I then decided to try the credo experiment described above, and that would hold for a day or two at 65 also, and then the beads would be completely spent and the rh would dip. So then I gave up on that and put the tupperware back in there, but this time I actually poured a shotglass full of distilled water over them instead of spraying them like I had in the past. That had the effect of turning them all clear, so being worried about absorbing rises in humidity, I also put a shotglass full of white beads in there next to it. The rh is now holding steady around 67-68 (odd since they are 65% beads) and has been for the last couple days. Thats obviously not such a big deal at that rh, but it is still weird that I can't get it to 65. At this point though, I am just glad I haven't had to add water for the past couple days. And I did the salt test and all of the percentages I have mentioned have been properly adjusted (its +2 on whatever it reads - its a digi too). I've also done the flashlight and dollar bill tests and the seal looks good. Does anything I've done stand out as good/bad and am I missing something? Thanks for the interest and sorry for the novel!

sounds like the humi is not seasoned enough. that size would probally take longer than 2 days. hope this helps :D
