Is there a brand of beads that are better than the other? they seem to me to be the same thing with different labels.

Ive found conservagel for $22 a pound vs 28 for the same amount of heartfelt industries. is there any reason to prefer one over the other? why?

also, if there is another method or brand, let me know.

soon the cooler will be up and running. then i can start filling the damn thing.

pm me or post a link I'd like to have a look.
I make my own out of Cat litter, but I find it a PIA unless
you have electronics to set it up!
IMHO

Personally I'd buy the:
hysteresis curve of 63% - 67%.

Seems like a good product for less.
I've never used it & have used Heartfelt was/am happy.
So if price is a factor - why not use the other produc???

I have since switched to Pet Pearls.
But that is a whole nother thing & starting out - simple is often better!

I hope it's not fresh from the litterbox!

If you order the heartfelt ones direct, the customer service is very good. Not to mention free shipping to military members (even if it is a "foreign" army).

yeah, i ended up ordering from the yesterday. they should be here in two more days...then the cooler is ready to be filled.

Ordered from Heartfelt three times. Each time with the standard shipping rate I received my products in three days or less. That and the beads and humitubes are first class.

While we are on the subject, I accidently oversoaked a rubbermaid tub that holds my beads, now the entire tub of beads are clear. Humidity is holding but could this have any harmful side effects?

I don't know about harmful effects, but if you spread them out in a baking dish or something similar that lets them spread thin and just run a blow dryer over them for a few minutes, they will dry out and you can recharge them.

No problem...I speak from personal experience as someone who was frequently a little heavy-handed with the distilled water when recharging the beads

So bdub, how is the coolerdor working out?

I have mine just about ready to go. I oredered and received Heartfelt beads, threw in some boxes, and my cigars will be here tomorrow.

mine is working great. they beads work perfectly, so far as i can tell. open and close the door time and time again, doesn't seem to bother it.

i think i now need to build some shelves to make it even better...

Excellent.

Are your beads in a bowl or scattered about?

I've got mine in mesh bags. I can't tell what color they are tho, so when I see the humidity drop, I just spray em with distilled water. Shelves would be cool, but I haven't the vaguest notion of how to go about building any.

i put mine in some pantyhose. it seems to be working

right now im using some small wire bathroom racks for shelves. but i want better ones...

I'm glad to hear that the coolerdor is working out for you.I've been using one for some time now w/ heartfelt beads and I'm very happy with it. In fact I just bought 1/2 lb for our humi at work.

For me, I use the cat litter and I didn't set it up really. I was lucky that the humidity in the house was about 60 or so when I set it up. I have to occasionally moisten it with DI water in a spray bottle, but that's pretty infrequent. My coolerdor stays about 65 without hardly any work at all. It's the exquisicat litter without any sort of scent to it...pretty cheap at petsmart and you'll get more than you'll probably ever use. If you mess it up, throw it out and get some more out of the jug.

There's my two cents, anyway.

Dito, I have not sprayed my kity litter beads for 3 month still holding around 68-70%

Same here. The stuff works wonders. I am now setting up a new batch at 65% instead of the 69-68% I have currently in the old coolerdor. I figure and other 7 days and I should be good with a total of ten days training.

Okay, I give up. I have searched but cannot find any details on kitty litter. Can someone please explain what to use and how to "set it up".

Thanks.

This is the stuff that you want to use. Make sure it is the unscented kind or your cigars will get ruined.

It does not have a specific rH set like heartfelt beads do, so you will need to "train" it with something that does have specific rH seting. I suggest boveda packs. In an air tight container put in the crystal that you want to train and a boveda pack. Some people like 70% and others like 65%. Most on this board like 65%. Keep the container closed tight for two weeks and the litter should be trained to hold at the specific rH for the boveda pack you used.
