Cigar # 1

in an attempt to keep this kinda short ill give you the important parts.

Burn: 9
There were no burn issues even though i had some wrapper issues. It started to unravel after the 1/2 way point. I was able to save it by peeling a way a small part of the wrapper. It kept the burn even.
Draw: 9
not too tight, not too easy.
Construction: 7
I fount the cigar a bit squishie. It wasnt what i would call "soft" but it wasnt as firm as i usually notice.
Appearance: 8
nothing special. just a medium light brown.
Taste: 8
THere were moments where the cigar was brilliant. Sweet creamy, light coffee. There were also moments of harshness and grass. I also found it to be uninteresting when looked at in total.
Aftertaste: 7
I found the after taste to be one of two things: nonexistant or a bit bitter.
Overall feel: 8
It was just there.

the first few puffs made me believe that it could be a camacho havanna but then i thouight that it was the wrong size to be from this line and after i got into the cigar it seemed to grassy to be from camacho as well.

as far as smoke rings id give it 4 of 6 rings
it was ok. and thats all.

now comes the scary part, my guesses on the wrapper, binder and filler.

The wrapper i think was either a connecticut shade grown outside of the US or a very mild cameroon. I was debating this because of the hint of coffee i got out of it.

the binder could have been a sumatra because of the color but since the cigar wasnt that complex im guessing it was just another dominican leaf.

for the filler im going to have to say dominican and honduran.

Cigar #2

burn: 8
I did have two relights.

Draw: 9
Very good draw. It hat a bit of resistance but in a good way.

Taste: 9
I found a few notes of a plesant spice. Leather and earth tones abound. Full bodied with no harshness. About 1/4 of the way it it just seemed to round out nicely.

Aftertaste: 9
A good finish with the spice trailing of quickly. nothing lingered longer than it should.

Construction: 9
The cigar was quite firm and even a bit hard to cut. The draw was great. When these two things arein the same cigar it usually means a good construction.

Appearance: 9
a smooth oily skin with a rich brown hue.

feel: 8
it made me feel good. my only complaint is that it didnt last long enough.

overall 8.7

5 of 6 rings.

Cigar #3

Burn: 10
There were zero burn issues. no corrective lights. It didnt burn hot, fast, slow, uneven, nor did it go out.
Draw: 8
at teh begining of the cigar the draw was tight. It opened up as it went.
Taste: 8
Its a lighter flavor. There is a dark chocolate and earthy taste. It is a bitter chocolate but not a bitter smoke if that makes sence. There wasnt to much else going on but what was going on was nice and round.
Aftertaste: 9
there is a faint note of wood on the finish. It doesnt last too long though.
Construction: 9
The ash held for a long time. there were no bumps or soft spots. No unravaling. But since the draw was hard i gave construction a 9
Appearance: 9
It had a nice lighter brown color that looked smooth.
Feel: 9
It was a good cigar. I would smoke it again. It wasnt he best ive ever had but it was good.

overall: 8.8

5 of 6 smoke rings.

Wrapper: sumatra
filler: nicaraguan

cigar #4

Appearance: 9
nice and dark. Oils give it a sheen. looks good.

Construction: 9
Very few burn issues. No lumps or soft spots.

Draw: 9
An almost perfect draw. it is ever so slightly too tight. nothing to worry about though.

taste: 9
the draw starts with a sweetness that develops into coffee/chocolate. a spice comes on after that with a cedar hint to it. very good

aftertaste: 9
the cedar note is wonderful. its a gread cool woody bite. i love it.

burn: 9
no issues to mention. all problems corrected themselves.

feel: 10
relaxing and good. made me forget about life for a while.

overall: 9.0
5 of 6 rings

this cigar is very good. I said before that i think i know what it is.
im gunna go out on a limb and say that its a 5 vegas type A anomaly.

cigar #5
I think that something may have happened to to box in transit because this cigar has issues consistant with being crushed.

Burn: 7
It would ahve been higher but there were tons of problems at the "crush point" After it burned past that point it burned quite well.
Draw: 8
I found the draw to be a slight bit light but not too bad.
Taste: 8
the cigar was earthy in flavor and had a slight spice that lingered to the finish.
Aftertaste: 8
the aftertaste was deffinatly coffee and the leftover spice from the taste. Again i found a note of harshness but i think that had to do with the nnumber of relights from the burn issues.
construction: 9
even though it was clear that something had gone wrong post production the fact that the draw was good and the burn was good after the damaged section points to good construction. The ash was also a good indication. It was long. THe solid feel before the light also pointed in that direction.
appearance: 9
it looked good, besides the problem spot.
feel: 8
I didnt get the impression i was smoking anything special. it was a good middle of the road cigar in my mind.

over all 8.3
4 of 6 rings

my first impression of the cigar was that it was a 5 vegas limitada but after looking at it i realized it was too dark to be that. after smoking it here are my guesses on what makes it up:

wrapper: Dark natural from equador
Binder: i have no idea.
Filler: Nicaraguan, and some ligiero

Cigar #1

First smell slight hint of leather Pre light draw light leather with a tiny bit of coco in it. About half way through getting a spice sort of taste. I would not call it unpleasant but defiantly not desirable. This Taste continued to the end. Had to relight it twice. I hope the rest get better On the 6 ring scale I would have to go with a 3 at best.

Cigar #2

From the first smell I get a very pleasant leather smell Also has a leathery feel to it . Very similar to the smell of a clean saddled horse weird yes but that the smell I get. Pre light draw has a hint of leather in it as well. First draw after lighting gives a pronounced but not overpowering leather taste? Draw is perfect for me not to tight but not to loose? About half way through started to get a what I would call a woodsy flavor. Burned great no relights . I would say in my limited experience this was a good cigar. I would buy a box of these. I thought is was very good and packed allot of very good flavor even for its small size.

I would have to give this one a rating of 5 smoke rings

Cigar #3

Smell had a nutty hint to it. Pre light draw was mostly neutral with a bit of the nutty flavor. Has a nice nutty flavor in the smoke it has something “earthy” about it. Not powerful but not by any means bland. I would say it is a good cigar. Very mellow.

I am torn on the ring to rate this one. It very close to a 4 but I do not think it is quite there. So I am going to give it 3 smoke rings.

Cigar #4

Pre light draw little nutty. Lit well got a big hint of a spicy flavor when lit. Had a mild spice and a little woodsy flavor in it. Nothing to make me go wow but nothing bad. Other then the draw being a little tight it is a good cigar. For as dark as it was I was expecting more I guess.

I would give this cigar 3 smoke rings. I think with a little more spice it would have been a 4.

Cigar #5

Has a woodsy coco smell to it. Pre light draw had a nice coco flavor. Half way through has a very nice coco flavor with a bit a spice to it very good so far. This cigar has what I like though not very dark it did have a very good flavor. Smoked very well no relights . Nice size and shape. Nothing hash about it at all.

I would give this a4 smoke rigs very close to a 5. Would recommend this cigars to others.

Chris (chrisguinther)

Cigar #1

Prelight: Chocolate-covered, oily wrapper, thick ring guage, about the size of a corona gorda. Wrapper is in great shape, and the cigar appears to be packed with a lot of tobacco. Aromas of tea and sweet wood.

First 1/2: Cigar takes a bit to light. Burn is a little uneven, but the draw is good. Flavors are not overwhelming, subdued, smooth, and slightly sweet.
Doing some touching up to correct the burn. Still lots of sweet wood flavors.
Ash is light gray and falls flush with the foot.
Sweetness is really building into the second third.

Second 1/2: Lost my flame and had to relight. Noticing some bite on the tip of my tongue. Burn is now even. Flavor is getting lighter. No other noticeable changes.

3 out of 6 smoke rings. Cigar burns fairly well and is smooth, just not enough complexity for me.

Cigar #2

Pre-light Impressions: Petit Corona/Corona size. Dark-brown wrapper. Leather and tobacco aroma. Good oils.

First ½:

Lights easily. Strong leathers flavors right from the start. A strong smoke that stings the nostrils. Burn is even and the draw is just right. A slight saltiness but not as much as cigar #4. This cigar is much more palatable. Wood flavors are becoming apparent into the first inch. So far I’m really liking this cigar. Lots of toasted flavors. Nice strength and balance.

Second ½:
Not much changing here, and that’s not a bad thing. There may no be much complexity but the flavor is powerful and just keeps going. Overall, an intense cigar that just hits you at all times. I wouldn’t make this an everyday smoke, but it is a nice change of pace.

4 out of 6 smokerings.

Cigar #3

Prelight Impressions: Nice thick torpedo packed with loads of tobacco. Prelight aroma is floral. Medium-shade brown wrapper with noticeable veins but well-wrapped.

Lights easily with my torch. First few puffs and it is starting off very smooth. Ash is forming nicely. Burn is even. Getting a lot of floral and a bit of grassy flavor. Reminds me a little of a Diplomaticos #2 so far. Ash is holding very nicely. Picking up notes of sweet wood. Just a real smooth cigar that is easy to smoke. Lots of depth and consistent throughout. Very relaxing. Tasty finish.

5 out of 6 smoke rings. I could smoke this cigar everyday and be happy.

Cigar #4

Pre-light Impressions: A dark wrapper covers this petit corona. Pre-light aroma of oak and leather. The wrapper looks to be aged or at least fermented for some time. Slight discolorations are notable. Cigar is a little rough to the touch.

First 1/2:
Lights easy with the torch. The draw is easy but not too loose. First few puffs are vegetal. Burn is uneven. Noticing charred wood and leather flavors. About an inch into the cigar, and I’m picking up some oak flavors replacing the charred notes. Slightly salty.

Second 1/2:
Ash is holding well. Just not much complexity. Flavors are mainly salty and woody. I have to put the cigar down with 1.5 inches left.

3 out of 6 smoke rings.

Cigar #5

Pre-light impressions:
A torpedo with a medium-brown wrapper. Few veins except for two running down the length of the cigar. Pre-light aroma is earthy and floral. The cigar appears to be well-constructed.

First 1/3:
Easy draw, lots of smoke. Definitely not plugged. Very easy to light with a torch. First few puffs are nutty. Hints of leather and spice. Rich, tobacco flavors.
More nutty flavors into the first inch. So far the ash is forming even with the foot.
Woody flavors beginning to become apparent. Noticing some spiciness in my nostrils.

Had to relight after only an inch.

Second 1/3:
Leather flavors are becoming more predominant. Starting to notice some coffee flavors, especially on the finish.

Third 1/3:
Wood flavors are coming back. A little bit of sweetness. Not too heavy on the palate. No bitterness. Not much depth left.

4/6 Smoke Rings.
Reminds me of a corojo, possibly an Edge Torpedo

Steve (elidog)
Cigar number 1:

Nicely constructed cigar with a light CS wrapper (I think) the cigar had a very mellow prelight draw. Over all it was a very mild smoke with a nice nutty earthy flavor. Its not the kind of cigar I would normally reach for but none the less enjoyable.

3 out of 6 Smoke rings

Cigar number 2:

Very attractive Lonsdale sized cigar with a dark oily wrapper. Nice prelight aroma and draw. Beautiful veins through out the wrapper some wouldn’t like this but I like it.

Frist draw is nice with toasty chocolate flavors and volumes of nice smoke. This is a very good cigar, much to my taste and I’m loving it. A third of the way in and the toasty flavors have turned to spice with hints of mocha. The last third is very good. The burn has been outstanding. Flavor profiles are nice and spicey and the strength has picked up.

I have no idea what cigar this is all I can say is that I have enjoyed it quite a bit.

4 out of 6 Smoke Rings

Cigar #3

Very nice looking veiny torpeodo. Nice prelight draw and aroma. First draw reveals a very nice woody/nutty over tones in a mild body. This cigar is going to be nice with my cheapo Folgers! I’m pretty sure by the speed of burn and the ash that this is a mixed filler cigar. At the halfway point it is pretty one dimensional. In the end this is pretty much the same cigar from start to finish. The burn was perfect and I enjoyed this cigar with a cup of coffee. I give it 3 out of 6 smoke rings.

Cigar #4

Its mid afternoon and I have nothing to do and no where to go so I have poured a finger and a half of Makers Mark to enjoy with this cigar.
To begin with; this is a beautiful dark oily wrapper with some tooth, this is a great looking cigar. The prelight draw reveals strong tobacco flavors. First draw brings about strong tobacco flavors mixed with chocolate and earthiness. This cigar is full bodied and right from the beginning I’m loving it. About a third of the way in the draw has gotten very tight. Grrrrr nothing in the cigar world chaffs my skinny butt worse than a cigar I cant draw through! It started tight and is now just plain hard to draw through. I had to unplug it. Its burning nicely now, no matter, for me this is a serious flaw and ranks as the worst thing that can go wrong with a smoke. The flavors are very nice and some what complex as a mix of earthiness/tobacco and chocolate throughout the smoke. I like this cigar and had it not been for it being plugged I would give it a solid four but because it had to be run through I am giving it a 2 out of 6 smoke rings.

Cigar #5

This cigar is a very nice looking torpedo with a wrapper of medium tooth and not too much vein. Prelight draw in nice and open just what I like. First draw is nice and I note a strong presence of spice and nuts. A third of the way in and this smoke is great. Very spicy, nutty, and nice earthy undertones are coming out. Half way through and this has turned into a nice medium bodied cigar. I believe it’s a mixed filler cigar by the way it does not keep its ash. In finishing this cigar (I nubbed it to the point that I was smoking my fingers…) it ended up a nice medium bodied spicy cigar. It was not extremely complex but it was indeed a very good cigar. I would love to have a handful of these in my humidor. I give it a 4 out of 6 smoke rings.

Brandon (bdub)
Disclaimer: I am certainly new to this. My ability to pick out flavors is not the best. Half the time I think that I am simply making flavors up. Naming the tobaccos used in construction is something I might do in the future, but not now. All that said, I gave it my all and am quite comfortable in my ability to say this cigar is good, this one isn't. If my reviews seem lacking in depth, it is because I lack depth in palate and understanding to describe what is going on.

The Winner:
5 of six smoke rings
Cigar Number 3
While the large ring is not my favorite, the ability to cut on the torpedo shape allows me plenty of room to custom fit. The color of this cigar is pale, nearing the color of khaki. The construction is a bit soft, but not mushy. After getting it lit I quickly fell in love with this cigar. It started out tasting, as best as i can tell, nutty. But that really didn't last all that long. Beyond the initial nut taste, a coffee taste took over. I hate coffee. But, in this burned leaf form, I love coffee. The burn was even beyond reason. The ash hung on for a good long while. I can honestly think of nothing bad to say about this cigar. It is, without a doubt, one I would like to give another go.

First Runner Up:
4 of six smoke rings
Cigar Number 2
The size of the cigar is in line with what I have really come to like. The color was nice. To me, it seemed a milk chocolate like color. The color was evenly spread over the smooth body of the cigar. The pre-light draw was nice. Not too lose or tight. Upon lighting I nearly fell in love. But then it just was too sweet for me. That said, if in a different mood, the sweet cigar might be just right. The ash let off rather easily, but it didn't seem to detract from the cigars taste, so unless you hold your ashes over something important, it shouldn't be a problem. This cigar, in most every way was a number one, except in that the sweetness was something I would not want at all times.

Second Runner Up:
4 of six smoke rings
Cigar Number 4
Again, a near perfect size for me. But thats all it offered visually to make me want to smoke it. The super dark wrapper did nothing to make me want to smoke it. But, the smell was redeeming. I pinched this one as I couldn't find anything to cut it with. It did so perfectly, and had a nice draw. Upon lighting the cigar I found it to be a rather likable cigar. My fears over this odd little dark cigar were nearly completely washed away. The only problem I had was that it split and got an odd tumor of sorts. This funny little bump cause all sorts of burn problems.

Third Runner Up:
3 of six smoke rings
Cigar Number 1
Of the cigars in the bag, this was most appealing to me at first glance. I am not sure that I can say why, but something about this cigar had me thinking I had a winner. The burn was smooth as can be. The ash held on through a good deal. The color of the ash was a nice gray color. When I set this cigar down to do other things, it kept on burning on its own. It was low maintenance to say the least. The problem was the taste. I couldn't taste anything. Nothing stood out or caused me to notice it at all. I mean, it was a burning rice cake. Too bad really, otherwise it would have been perfect. Maybe it only needs a second chance.

Dead Last:
2 of six rings
Cigar Number 5
In shape in appearance, it was not so far from good. But really, thats hardly important when compared with how it taste. I mean, it might ugly, and still be a fine cigar(number 4 comes to mind). This however, was a terrible smelling cigar that was described as smelling like a barnyard. There is nothing good to say about the way in which it attacked my, and all those who i tricked into giving it a smell, nose. I lit it and and found it didn't taste all that great. I blamed the fact that I was using a lighter(no matches left) and that it would mellow once it burned off the butane

now that i have read all fo the reviews...

im kinda surprised at what cigar was what. i learned alot. i think that this also pointed out how much a different day can change a cigar to different people. All of the cigars should have been about the same in some ways but they werent. different burn issues, different draw issues. very interesting.

i was also stunned at how close i was on a few of the wrappers. ...i didnt do so hot on the binders but that was still better than i expected.

i would like to know more info in cigar number 5 as well.

I had tons of fun doing this. thank you for putting it together.

anyone else wanna send me cigars to "test" :?:

When I do this again, I am going to do it a bit differently.

I am going to make all the cigars the same size. I wish i would of done it on this as well. Different cigar sizes give off different flavors

One thing I did notice is it is easy to understand why Macanudo is the first one people grab. When i was packing them, the wrappers were flawless and looked perfect
