Disclaimer: I am certainly new to this. My ability to pick out flavors is not the best. Half the time I think that I am simply making flavors up. Naming the tobaccos used in construction is something I might do in the future, but not now. All that said, I gave it my all and am quite comfortable in my ability to say this cigar is good, this one isn't. If my reviews seem lacking in depth, it is because I lack depth in palate and understanding to describe what is going on.
The Winner:
5 of six smoke rings
Cigar Number 3
While the large ring is not my favorite, the ability to cut on the torpedo shape allows me plenty of room to custom fit. The color of this cigar is pale, nearing the color of khaki. The construction is a bit soft, but not mushy. After getting it lit I quickly fell in love with this cigar. It started out tasting, as best as i can tell, nutty. But that really didn't last all that long. Beyond the initial nut taste, a coffee taste took over. I hate coffee. But, in this burned leaf form, I love coffee. The burn was even beyond reason. The ash hung on for a good long while. I can honestly think of nothing bad to say about this cigar. It is, without a doubt, one I would like to give another go.
First Runner Up:
4 of six smoke rings
Cigar Number 2
The size of the cigar is in line with what I have really come to like. The color was nice. To me, it seemed a milk chocolate like color. The color was evenly spread over the smooth body of the cigar. The pre-light draw was nice. Not too lose or tight. Upon lighting I nearly fell in love. But then it just was too sweet for me. That said, if in a different mood, the sweet cigar might be just right. The ash let off rather easily, but it didn't seem to detract from the cigars taste, so unless you hold your ashes over something important, it shouldn't be a problem. This cigar, in most every way was a number one, except in that the sweetness was something I would not want at all times.
Second Runner Up:
4 of six smoke rings
Cigar Number 4
Again, a near perfect size for me. But thats all it offered visually to make me want to smoke it. The super dark wrapper did nothing to make me want to smoke it. But, the smell was redeeming. I pinched this one as I couldn't find anything to cut it with. It did so perfectly, and had a nice draw. Upon lighting the cigar I found it to be a rather likable cigar. My fears over this odd little dark cigar were nearly completely washed away. The only problem I had was that it split and got an odd tumor of sorts. This funny little bump cause all sorts of burn problems.
Third Runner Up:
3 of six smoke rings
Cigar Number 1
Of the cigars in the bag, this was most appealing to me at first glance. I am not sure that I can say why, but something about this cigar had me thinking I had a winner. The burn was smooth as can be. The ash held on through a good deal. The color of the ash was a nice gray color. When I set this cigar down to do other things, it kept on burning on its own. It was low maintenance to say the least. The problem was the taste. I couldn't taste anything. Nothing stood out or caused me to notice it at all. I mean, it was a burning rice cake. Too bad really, otherwise it would have been perfect. Maybe it only needs a second chance.
Dead Last:
2 of six rings
Cigar Number 5
In shape in appearance, it was not so far from good. But really, thats hardly important when compared with how it taste. I mean, it might ugly, and still be a fine cigar(number 4 comes to mind). This however, was a terrible smelling cigar that was described as smelling like a barnyard. There is nothing good to say about the way in which it attacked my, and all those who i tricked into giving it a smell, nose. I lit it and and found it didn't taste all that great. I blamed the fact that I was using a lighter(no matches left) and that it would mellow once it burned off the butane
