Tequila (and Mezcal) actually goes quite well with a cigar. As far as spirits go I'd put it #3 behind whiskey & brandy. I haven't tried rum with a cigar though, so it's possible it might bump off Tequila. I never would have thought that'd be good, but one of the usual suspects in chat (rmrdaddy I think) recommended it.kuzi16 said:

Ok, so after contemplating rum + cigars, naturally I had to go try it. I picked up a bottle of Ron Zacapa Centenario, and after tasting it decided to pair it up with an Onyx reserve. The rum & the combo were quite tasty. Still, I prefer cactus to sugar cane, but I think I can easily slot rum in ahead of all the clear stuff as my #4 spirit to pair with a cigar.
I remember smoking a C10 with a Sam Adams Boston Lager.. I thought it was so awesome.
I tend to pair cameroons, sumatra, connies, and maddies with coffee. Sungrowns and corojos with soda.

I like to match my coffee with my cigars, Mild coffee like kona early in the morning with a Don Carlos III , or a Columbian supermo with a Camacho select later in the day, , scotch ( any islay single malt ) works well with the camacho, with or with out coffee, & the coffee should be black & brewed a little on the strong side for me , I like mild coffee like Kona but I brew it stronger than I would a java or african coffee, ( for one freedom press pot I use 4 ounces of kona to one pot , but for the darker roast coffees i drop it to 3 ounces for the same pot, dammm glad I never got rid of the balance beam scale ! hahahaha

Starbucks / Guinness
I find Starbucks Mocha Frappucinno (in the bottle, not from the actual Starbucks) goes great with just about any cigar I've had. I'm also fond of pairing my evening cigar up with Guinness Draught (not extra stout) either from the tap if I'm shooting pool or from the can if I'm at home. I usually smoke a milder cigar after lunch which goes well with the Starbucks and a fuller bodied cigar in the evening that cuts through the Guinness.
I've never been much for hard liquor so I don't really even try to pair Cognac or Scotch up with a cigar. It's just not to my liking.
Jason - I bet the coffee w/coconut milk is great. Sounds like a Thai coffee my girlfriend had when we went to Sedona last week. Blew any Starbucks away.
Smart Ash / cmont - I'm from Phoenix too - Glendale actually. Looks like we're well represented on this forum. I moved out here 1.5yrs ago and ALMOST took a place in Gilbert but ended up going to the west valley so didn't have to deal with the I-10/ I-17 traffic to get to work.

Wish I could get up there on the 7th. I will be up in the white mountains that weekend. We will have to get together sometime and have a sitdown. Puff, my office is actualy in Glendale, bassicaly 59th ave and Bethany. Good to see the area represented.

Sounds fun as I've been wanting to go to a cigar bar here, but there's a major stepping stone in the way. The lady only gets every other weekend off and those are our only days off together (conflicting schedules). I know she's already got plans for earlier in the day & if I take off later in the day alone she ain't gonna be happy. And when she ain't happy it means I ain't happy :wink:
Anyhow, maybe I can talk her into getting a babysitter for her kid for the evening and both of us heading out there although to be honest, I may have to take a raincheck on this. I'll PM you to let you know either way.
BTW- How's the new smoking law going to affect cigar bars here? I already know that come may I can't smoke at my regular pool hall anymore which has me PI$$ED.... pool and a good cigar just go hand in hand for me.

Woah!! Pease tell me that there is no smoking ban in AZ. Going out to Sedona later this year and there's a nice cigar bar where I stay. I can't beleive that I won't be able to have a cigar there. It's been outlawed here, but I thought the pleasure police did not get out there yet! Tell me it ain't so!!

nothing has made me wince so far.

Just tried the cigar/coke combination, and surprisingly it's damn good!
I remember when I gave cigarettes a go (that lasted a week) I really liked the cig/Rockstar energy drink combo.
However, for something as delicate as cigars, I think the Rockstar would take over.

Well there you have it flagman.. it won't affect Sedona. I was just up there last week, it's beautiful. Got a friend w/a mountain right out his backyard, the scenery is great. The lady & I are considering moving up that way in a few yrs. If you like Thai food, you gotta try Thai Spices, it's a tiny restaurant right on the strip, easy to pass even if you know it's there. It's run by a Thai family and the food is as good & authentic as it gets. My friend up there lived in Thailand for 20yrs and said if that restaurant was over there, it would be the one he ate at, and he definitely knows his Thai food.
Smart Ash - cool, we'll definitely have to do one sometime. I'm just starting up a new job and will be quite busy for awhile making a good impression but hopefully we won't have to delay this too long. I like a good cigar and that sounds like just the place to enjoy one at.
More on topic - I also like Green Tea (Iced) with my milder daytime stogies. Celestial Seasonings is the best I've found yet, at least for decaf.

Thanks for the info. Been to Sedona twice and keep coming back. Love the area. My parents almost bought a few acres back in the 70's for something like $10000.00. I noticed you're in Akron. I'm originally from Youngstown, moved out here just over 2yrs ago. Was talking to my brother about 2 weeks ago and he was telling me they were in the middle of a snowstorm, we were in the upper 80s and have already hit 99 degrees twice. I sure don't miss those cold snowy winters, although we pay for it during summer.
I remember one particular snowstorm a few years back where I had fuel line freezeup for 3 days. Missed my reserve drill in , of all places, Akron.
