Cigar Lockers

the local cigar bar near me has em, i was thinkin bout gettin one, $500/year rental

My local cigar bar charges $400/year. Too rich for my blood. I usually take a couple of smokes with me when I go. And I could buy a helluva humidor for $400. My .02 anyway.

for 250/year id jump on it, its nice to know you just have stuff there whenever you wanna go, plus you'll get some free stix...i dont know, i think id do it

Maybe I am going against the crowd. But what if something happens? god forbid fire or theft, or worse the humidifier goes down. will they cover the damages? Maybe it is just me, but I like to be in control of my cigars.

I guess it also depends on how often you'll be going to the cigar bar. The place I go to is pretty nice, but I only go about twice a month, which isn't worth the cost to me. Maybe I'll go more often during the winter, but still probably not enough to justify the cost.

Oh, and if I'm gonna lose my cigars to a fire, I want them to be little fires, started one at a time, by me :wink:

Honestly, when is the last time you heard of a cigar bar burning down? Most, if not all, new construction or remodeled buildings are fire suppressed, so if I were you, I would worry more about getting into a car accident GOING to the bar, than your cigars catching fire.

But, back to the question. Since I have a built in, I do have some space so it would be no use to me. I do know that Alex and Thor share one in Sullivan's Chicago. Since they frequently conduct business there, it only makes sense... Alex, I hope you don't mind me speaking for you.

I like to keep my babies close to me. Plus the nearest place I know that has lockers is in town and I almost never go in town, so what's the point.

Ok maybe the fire was a bit overstated, The point I guess I was trying to make was who would be responsible for damages if there was a problem.

More than fire or a flood I'd worry about beetles!
One guy putting a batch of bad sticks in his humidor can wipe out everyone's cigars.
I know club Mac uses some kind of beetle gaurd stuff -
other than that for a few dollars more you could buy a really nice cabinet!

I think lockers are a great idea for the guy who likes to smoke cigars but knows little about thier storage and care. Here one can pickup all the info and a humi for less to keep thier babies ready to smoke.

Anyone actually read the last issue of Cigar Aficionado??
The Bill Shatner story covered the same topic, bogus or not. Bill put some smokes into storage in a shop, but basically forgot about them, ( money hah!)
a year plus later, he remembers about the shop, goes there, and they tell him...
"sorry Mr. Shatner, but your cigars had beetles, and we had to fumigate, and destroy your cigars...."
Even if the story was hokum, and they just glommed his precious cigars...

It's of my opinion from quering cigar shops equipped with lockers is that they are too expensive, kept at too high of a humidity and have excessive maintenance fees (meaning, you are then required to purchase a minimum number of cigars from the shop). The minimum purchase is usually a few boxes per year, at the usual inflated cigar shop prices.

Cigars brought from home and stored in the lockers are either not allowed at all, or heavily frowned upon. If they are allowed, then you are left with the aforementioned beetle concern.

Bottom line for me is that it's not worth it. Not even close.

I am going disagree with most of you. With looming smoking bans all over the US, the cigar shop of the future is going to become more and more of a gathering place for men. IMHO. I keep a locker at Sullivans downtown in Chicago. Of course I dont feel like I use it enough, there is now a big waiting list so I am glad I got in on the ground floor and have a retreat in the city.

I would agree with Alex, but since I don't play well with others, I have to stay home and smoke anyway.

I feel the same way. I looked into getting a locker at the beginning of summer but, I figured I'd be throwing money away. Think of all of the cigars you could buy with that kind of money? Even if the shop offers a discount of cigars you buy there if you get a locker you still waste a lot of $$$.

Buy a really nice humidor with that money.

I am with Alex on this one

First of all it's not that expensive at my local shop $100 a year. Second it's a nice place and I love hanging out there. Third, he keeps his humidity at 65%.

There is no min. to buy or none of that garbage. I already checked to make sure that I could bring sticks from home and he was more than accepting. He does have you sign an agreement stating that he is not responsible for anything placed in the lockers and only cigars and beverages may be stored in lockers.

There is a heck of a waiting list to get the lockers and I am the first one on the list for the new lockers coming the first of the year. I say go for it, if you can afford it. I think it would be great to have a locker at my local shop and keeping some smokes in there. If I am out and about and decide to go by the shop. I will feel good knowing I have some nice sticks waiting to be smoked, without having to run home and pick them up first.

If the box only cost a 100 bucks a year I would do it but anything more then that is to much for me. If the cigar shope close to my work had one and it wasn't very expensive i would do it so I could stop by after a long day of work and unwind and not take my work home with me for my family to see. It would be nice to not have to remember to bring my own sticks, lighter, and cutter.
