cigar oasis

I've had mine for awhile now - it works very well. It has been worth the money for me.

I would recommend supplementing it with some heartfelt beads - especially for the winter months when it is tough keeping the humidity up.

My 2 cents.

I agree. I've had my Oasis for a few weeks, now. The cigars were feeling a little dry so I added some beads (oasis on one side beads on the other along with the Oust fan) and now the cigars are doing just fine.

dito... the beads have really helped to balance out my RH... I tend to be in and out of my coolerdor too often

Is the Oasis of any real use in the smaller (100ct) humidors or is it really designed for the larger cabinet/cooleradors?

I also have a desktop humi that I load up with a good mix of sticks. This way I don't open the coolidor too often.

I have two of the original release Cigar Oasis units. I have retrofitted them by taking the tops off the cartridges, removing the floral foam and replacing it with superabsorbent polymers and distilled water. This works great. I don't need to replace the cartridges because they no longer absorb water and the polymers hold mosture much longer than the floral foam. My units as adapted, do an excellent job of humidification.

I have read aneccotal reports on other boards that there may be design defects in the brand new version of these with the digital readout and water/wick configuration of the cartridge.

A friend of mine replaced the element in his Oasis with Heartfelt beads, and it works great

I love the oasis....

I use them in some 200 + humis as well as my small cabinet...

I just got my Oasis and it has been in my humidor for a little less than a week now. Things seem to be OK...but now Van55 has me a little worried. :?

Still, I'll keep a close eye on it to see how it does. So far so good, if anything, it seems to keep the humidity a little high. i had it set and 70, but my hygrometer is reading about 70.5. So I set it back toward 69.5 to see if it balances.

What are the beads everyone is talking about. I guess I managed to miss these...I've never seen them. Is this the same as the gell?

Thanks Brenda. I had never seen those. Do they have any chemical effect on the cigars? I would guess not since so many folks here are using them.

I may replace my foam in my oasis with them if I have any problems.

This board is just loaded with interesting information.

I know some folks use a special brand of kitty litter for humidification. I don't know which brand, though.

Maybe someone that actually knows what they are talking about can chime in?

I certainly do not claim to know what I am talking about but....

THIS is the brand that has been discussed here. Only I believe they now recomend the Pearl Fresh kind. It looks exactly like the Heartfelt beads that I purchased.

EDIT: Pearl Fresh is the same brand, but is in a bead form rather than krystal.

id like to see some test results as to what humidity those things keep. it seems to me the silica beads sent with electronics also look exactly alike but i bet they dont hold 65- 75% i bet its more like 50. i cant stress enough how awsome i think those beads are. i bought hygrometers for each of my humidors, now i say it is a waste, you can be sure the beads are working, just add water when they turn white.

I have wondered that myself. I got a thing of the kitty litter to try (figured I could always use it for the cat) but had already ordered the beads from Heartfelt, so I use them. I read somewhere that you have to "condition" the kitty litter to the RH you want. I don't know if this is true or not, but makes sense to me. I just felt more confident using the Heartfelt ones...paid a lot more for them, but being new to this, I have enough variables to worry about as it is. :?

I've seen the Exquisicat Pearl Fresh at PetSmart. They were sold out of the Krystals. I also have a cat, which will be my excuse to get this during the weekend. And besides, my cat's age has gotten the better of him. His bladder isn't what it used to be anymore.

But I still don't know the proper procedure to "condition" these pearls as everyone is mentioning to do.

I think that Van55 is the resident expert on the kitty litter thing...you could PM him, or since I have just put him on the spot, maybe he will respond here :p :p
