So Grandma and Grandpa were good to me for my B-day and I am getting a 500 count humidor. I was looking at the Cigar Oasis website to get more info but they really didn't give a range of cigar counts like the XL will do 300 and above that you need the XL plus. I know some of you all have them. Which Oasis did you get? What count box do you you have? How much did you pay? Does anyone know if I will be alright with an XL for a 500 count or should I really get a XL plus?

Thanks

Cigar Oasis XL Plus uses the same microprocessor technology and features as the Cigar Oasis XL. The basic difference is a change in the air flow and water cartridge which allows the Cigar Oasis XL Plus to pick up more moisture and thus provide more rapid humidification, especially for larger personal humidors, chests, end tables and other similar enclosures. the new Cigar Oasis XL Plus now uses a foam in the water cartridge which the user must fill with distilled water as described in the manual, eliminating wicks and water splashing around. Cigar Oasis XL Plus comes standard with a large cartridge and should be used with AC power since it will run more frequently in larger humidors and battery life would be short. However, when needed, an optional water cartridge/battery pack unit can be attached to the control unit for battery powered operation.

I have the plus in my cabinet, and it does a good job humidifying over a 1000 cigars. I'm finding that I need to add water to the cartridge about every three to four weeks to maintain an adequate RH (65-67% is my preference). I also have a 500 count foot locker humidor and have had adequate humidificaiton using two passive humidifiers.

I have the original XL in my fridgidor. It works fine and only once every two or three months do I have to refill it but that is only because its the original cartridge. My fridgidor has about 2.5 cu. ft. of space.

ill have to check that out when i come over for your bday red, i havent seen one up close.

you just have to be carfull because my digital readout is off by 5% and i called up and they said consider myself luckey because some of them are off by up to 18% i have the XL not the plus

Thanks for the info Duke. I have another hydrometer that is coming free with my humidor.

my 2 cents. Get some beads just for back up and piece of mind. Most of the post I have read, people with the oasis also throw some beads in too. :)

I don't but wish I did. There is a fairly decent swing in humidity whenever I open the door to my fridgidor. I don't have much cedar in there either but I think the lack of beads is most of it.
