Ok this is a first for me. Smoking a CAO Gold out of a box I have already smoked half of. About 3/4 the way through I noticed this ooze? What is it? And why only this one so far after I have smoked more then half the box?

ive seen it before.

tasted bitter?

Nicotine

i think i read somewhere that wet "cooked" nicotine is that color.

my other impression is tar.

but Nicotine seems to stand out in my mind.

thats happenned to me recently on a don carlos #3 and something else i cant remember

I've noticed similar stuff to that on the end of my cigar occasionaly. I always thought it was excess saliva and tobacco oils mixed together. No idea what you got there Travis. Maybe a chunk of oil/resin/goo from a cigar that somehow aged a differently than the others in the box?

I had that happen on a 5vegas limitada, I would wipe it away, puff and more would appear. Very bitter taste.

Got a nice letter from Madonna Archer at CAO saying she has never seen this before. Nice to know they read there email.

So...they are sending you a fiver of the Vision to make up for it?

Did you use a punch?? it looks like you have a somewhat of a small opening. That will concentrate tar etc. If there is a thick leaf stem right there it might ooze like that, especially if the cigar is fresh.

I've had that happen a couple of times. Sometimes when it is a larger ring cigar, and you use a punch cut, there is a build up of tar that forms from the smoke only being able to go through a small exit. I've only had it happen on 50 + rings that I've used a punch with, s well a couple torps that I didn't cut enough off of.

that's my take on it at least.

I've had it a few times but never cared too much. I think it occurs mostly when I scrape off the cap instead of cutting/clipping it. I always thought it was just like a tar build up.

To fix I use a Xikar multi-tool scissors and just give a little "freshen up" cut.

I haven't seen that since I bought a 6 pack of Antonio y Cleopatra Grenadiers about 10 years ago. Those things did that at least 50% of the time.

Today in the Mail I got a box via fedex that I was not expecting. The box was from CAO CAO tape and all. I opened the box to find I of each of the sizes they make of CAO Gold plus the tin of small ring. One bad cigar and I get a nice 5 pack plus a tin. GO CAO!!
