cigar size

Interesting to see that nmcowboy, who like me is usually very active in the wee hours, has shown up 12 hours early. Must be an "off" day. :cryinlaugh:

Bloof, I'm putting 2 kids thru college, soon to be a third. I pretty much work around the clock these days. The night job allows me a little more computor time, the day job is for the most part out doors. I tend to come in for lunch and read the forums while eating. I think I'm a little more verbose at night, not sure what thats all about.

I've heard it said that the cigar should match the person smoking it, in as much as a skinny guy should smoke a lonsdale type cigar, and a big guy would smoke a big ring cigar.

I thought that was the point you were making Tim. I'm not sure they make a cigar that would fit me then, maybe a backwoods.

nmcowboy putting two kids through college in the 21st Century. That says it all. I think it's going to cost him more than rebuilding Ground Zero will cost NYC. Whoa, talk about living on a budget. Maybe nmcowboy can only AFFORD to smoke Backwoods.

Hey dad, I'm back from school, what're we having for Thanksgiving?

The turkey's over there on the table.

But dad, it's just bones.

Yeah, that's left over from the last Thanksgiving before I sent you guys off to college. It's all I can afford. I keep the carcass around so I can REMEMBER what a turkey tastes like.

BP, don't be silly, I was just clarifying. I don't want anyone to get the idea that I smoke thin cigars. I'm strictly a Churchill or bigger guy, and if it's shorter, it's usually large ring. Of course, when people send or give me gifts, I take what's given with much appreciation. That's how I've gotten to know a few thin cigars. Also, when it comes to Opus X, I just don't have the balls to try a large one. Nowadays I don't have the money either.

Hmmmmmmmmmm, no bucks, no balls, might as well be dead.

La Flor Dominicana 2000 is one of my old favorites, and years ago a friend and I agreed that the best flavor is in the smaller sizes, even though we both prefer large cigars. I believe our favorite was the #2 or #3, can't remember which right now.

Out of the 1,200 or so cigars I've smoked in a little over nine years of smoking, only 50-75 have been thin, and about 25 of those impressed me with their flavor. So, as I said, I HAVE experienced that premise, but overall, I'll take a large cigar any day, and simply don't have enough experience to say which has more flavor across the board when it comes to size.

the c10 corona is pretty good, but yea the robusto is better.

I've got to get with this menu of cigars that the rest of you, especially the young fellers, are always mentioning. Being a creaky, broken down old hermit has its distinct advantages, but when you're looking for new cigars to smoke, sometimes you have to break out of the 732 year old man thingy, and get with a new program. If I am blessed enough to have a spring cigar shopping spree, I'm checking back with this thread, and maybe looking for four or five totally new cigars to smoke.

I'm definitely behind the times when it comes to knowing what's new and interesting in Cigardom. C10's, C18's, Diploma (heck, I've got a GED :sm_angel: ), B-52's, Talking Heads, I've definitely got to check these cigars out someday.

LOL.

Today I tried the 5 Vegas A for the first time. I am not a fan of the regular 5 Vegas, but the "A" got my attention and held it. Really nice body, good aroma, lots and lots of smoke, good taste, even cool burn.

When speaking of the 5 Vegas "A", does the "A" in this case refer to the size? The original Cuban "A" size is 9 1/4 x 47, which is a mighty big cigar. Just curious.

The 5 Vegas A comes in different sizes, but to my knowledge none are NEARLY that long, and the gauge is bigger.

Okay, so in this case the "A" is part of the name of the cigar. There are some cigars that come in "A" sizes, like the original Perdomo Reserve and the Montecristo Le Cigare Des Artes. Both of these "A" sizes hold to the 9 1/4 x 47 size designation.

Just to be sure, you better send me samples of the stix you're talking about so I can sample and compare!

That's correct Bloof, 5 Vegas Series 'A'. I like the Artisan, which is Robusto size. Nice full bodied cigars with a decent price.

As for size preference I usually go with the robusto, toro, torpedo bracket. I'll go with a churchill when I have the time.

Rocky Patel also makes the Sun Grown, Edge corojo, and 1990 in the A sizes. But those are limited editions and are sold strictly in boxes containing the three. I picked up one of these a few months ago and since then the prices have jumped nearly 50 bucks. I actually sent one of these to DD's buddy in Iraq. That's a picture I want to see.
