Disapointed in Anjeo

I bought two Anjeo extras and smoked one this last weekend for my birthday party. The burn was even and the taste was smooth, but not very flavorful. It was a good cigar, but not $14 dollars worth. I had a bigger reaction with the CI legends green label (Puros Indios). I have stored them well.

Everyone says they are so good, but I am wondering if it is enviroment or needs to sit? I just don't know. I keep my humidity at 67-68. I know the people on the board that like them would not if all of them were so mellow.

Maybe I just got a bad one?

I didn't know there was such a thing.

I'm sure your other cigars are smoking just fine. How long have you had the Añejo? Maybe it peaked. . .

I think that the sitting is quite critical. Keven mentioned on another thread that his were aging for almost 2 years now - I know I plan on aging mine before I smoke em. That way you get to try other cigars first, and then you can make a better comparison.

There you go!

The ones I got from Alex had been box aging since 2004. I haven't had any of those yet - but Axegod was generous enough to share one with me when I was out in San Francisco - that was a tasty smoke!

Anthony, how long were those babies sitting?

Hey Bikeman - did you get my PM?

If you buy anymore and don't like them, I'll take the rest!!

Sorry to hear of your experience on your first Anejo.

I have the same box as Kevin, but haven't tried it out yet. Waiting till next month for them to turn 2 years old.

I picked those up in early 2003.
Aside from the 7-hour drive from Temecula to San Francisco back in August they we're always kept at around 64%.
mmmmm, Añejo 8)

Once upon a time, a long time ago an old cigar smoker I knew told me to somke at least a box of a given cigar before you make a final decision on the taste, quality, etc. These cigars are hand made so there will be differences. Patience Grasshopper. 8)

due to it's aging method, should the anejo be stored seperately from other cigars?

MMuuuuum Syrup (in a Homer Simpson voice.)

I just bought them when I was in Miami Jan 30- Feb 3. I watched the guy open the box fresh. He told me when he got it, but I can't remember if it was Jan 2005 or Jan 2006. So those are the ranges of time. So maybe they need to sit more.

Aging method? Are Anejo's stored differently to age?

"This idea was for a cigar that uses the very best Dominican filler and binder and finishes with a 5 year old Connecticut maduro wrapper aged in a cognac barrel. This cigar became know as the Fuente Anejo (extra Viejo).
The Anejo is a full bodied Dominican cigar that because of its unique aging process leaves a very disctinct finish on the palate."

Would this then be considered a flavored cigar?

No. Its just aged in the barrels. It might impart subtle hints but not noticibly I wouldn't think.

Gurkha Gran Reserves are actually flavored/infused with Louis XIII cognac.
