Dumb question--need help

I'm going out of town this weekend and need some advice on bringing cigars--is there any problem with packing them in carry-on or would I be better off putting them in my luggage? I figure the cutter goes in checked baggage, but what about the cigars themselves?

Or does anyone know of a good shop in the DC area?

don't know about the DC area, but I don't think i could trust the handlers with my cigars. I would put them in my carry on. Don't forget no lighters

I'm planning on traveling this weekend and they are coming with me on the plane. People carry their cigarettes on with them, I don't see what the problem would be with cigars. If you don't have a travel humidor, just toss them in a ziploc bag and breath into it to get some humidity in there and seal it up. They should be fine!

Cigar shops in DC:
Georgetown Tobacco, 3144 M Street, North West 202/338-5100
JR Tobacco, 1677 K Street, North West 202/833-3766
There are many others. Many Government people shop at Georgetown Tobacco- Senators, Supreme Court Judges, Members of the House. A lot of good regular people shop there also. Great selection- a lot of high end stuff. Fun shop to visit.

Thanks, Malone. I'll have to check out Georgetown, not that I'd recognize anyone....I wonder if that's where Monica got her infamous cigars.

Yes georgetown tobacco is excellent but can be pricey. However, last time I was there I was told by local college students that that is where they all got their fake ID's. I could kind of imagine a backdoor type of operation or maybe just an employee was running a shady business on his own. Kind of funny though.

Travel: no lighters. Cutters are okay on a plane but I cant figure out why, they are really a cleaner package box cutter. None the less I have called ahead and they gave me the okay. But you might as well check it. As for cigars, over the long haul you should really invest in a nice case. If you are a rough traver check out the cigar caddy by otter products. If you want something nice, go for either one of the savoy travelers. I have them all and love them.

Macallan,

Very true about travel humidors. I travel alot for work and the best I've found is the Don Salvatore. It doesn't cost a fortune and mine came with Spanish kiln dried cedar for the interior. I can easily carry it under my arm. Mine comfortably holds 20 churchills, more if smaller sizes and packed better. :D

I'd second this product!
There is a nice box made by Road Warrior as well.
Basically the same thing.

i got a 5 cigar caddy i just leave in the car. one night i was with freinds standing outside and thinking it was the perfect night for a cigar, but i didnt have one  that wont happen again!

Monica didn't get cigars, unless "that" cigar was one she gave him as a gift. His Slickness has always been a cigar smoker, at least he was back then. Madame Hitlary would not allow smoking by ANYONE in the White House during her reign. That's why he ended up smoking out on the deck so much. The one that The Great StainMaker inserted into Monica was indeed his own, although I don't know if he does his own shopping. Probably had a Secret Service agent do that for him.

There is nothing wrong with bringing cigars with you, even if they give you a hard time you are allowed too. There are a lot of jerk security people who like to think all cigars are cuban...I always bring with just in case I don't make it out to the shops...especially if I don't need to.
