I remember when I first started smoking cigars, I really didn't like them at all. I was pretty young, about 13. Every cigar tasted the same or was too heavy for my palate....

I remember though one day my friends dad gave me a Bauza....
I loved it, I couldn't believe I found a cigar I actually liked....It was all over from there on out...

Can you recall what cigar was the first one you actually really enjoyed the whole way through?

The first cigars I remember were when I was in the Corps when we would leave the field or were done with the final mission we would smoke a cigar. Granted they were not real cigars they were swidher sweets or cigars of that Ilk.

The first real cigar I had was when I was in Okinawa, it was a Santa Rosa. I really enjoyed that dark wrapper. The Santa Rosa had such great flavor I smoked it to the nub. The next cigar I had was a Cuban bought in Australia. I don't remember what it was.

Smoked prolly 20-30 different cigars till I found one that I actually liked. CAO Brazillia Gol!
Currently in love with the Bolivor '05 Churchill

My very first cigar was a Thompson Rum Twist, and I got sicker than a dog. To this day, I can't smoke flavored cigars, and the smell of rum turns my stomach.

You guys know the old saying about getting back up on the horse, well that is exactly what I did. I kept puffing along, until I found cigars I liked. The very first cigar I every enjoyed was a La Gloria Cubana Torpedo

I can never remember not liking cigars, although I do remember having bad cigars. The first time I can remember smoking a cigar, I think I was somewhere between 4 and 6 years old. I don't know what it was, but I liked it...I only had a few puffs, I shared it with my Dad and older sister! After that, over the years I smoked lots of Dutch Masters, Antonio y Cleopatra, Marsh Wheelings and later Backwoods. It wasn't until the early 80's that I had what I now feel was a decent cigar. From around 1982 until about 1990, I was mostly smoking Partagas (Dominican) and man I thought those were great. Then when the prices started going up I bought mostly cheap bundle cigars like La Primadora Presidentes, Flor de Oliva Torpedos and an occasional Fighting Cock Tubo. The first time I got my hands on a La Gloria Cubana Wavell and a Indian Tabac Boxer...I had an epiphany. That's the first time I have ever used that word. Wow, sorry to ramble on...times sure have changed for me.

That's what I did too....I figured eventually I'd like something....

the first cigar i remember was a fuente somthing that a buddy of mine got at a cigar show with a bunch of other cigars vendors were passing out. i had smoked cigars before but i dont know if they were anything more than swishers or drug store pieces of crap.

Wow! What a great thread. I can still remember the day before I went to boot camp, my father gave me a Montecristo Double Corona and then a R&J bully. It was all over after that. 3 months later when I came home, I invaded his humidor and have been happy ever since!

My first was a "geniuine certified true blue Cuban" purchased by my wife and myself on a cruise to Jamaica mon!

Then, I visited some friends in Toronto and found out what a real cigar was!

That's nice, I'd be doing the same thing, I have a feeling someday someone will always want to invade mine...for now my dad invades mine!

My first real cigar was a Cusano Corojo from Cigar.com. Bought it about 3-4 months before I left for boot camp and have been smokin ever since.

When I first started, I smoked a couple Macanudo Diplomat maduros. I think mostly because I liked the firurado shape. But then I quit sucking my thumb and moved on to real cigars. The first one I really fell in love with (and bought 2 boxes) were the Cohiba Red Dot Toro's. I have been a huge fan of the cameroon ever since!!

My first cigar was a Cohiba Corona I purchased while in Las Vegas. I went about a year and finally started buying cigars. It was a smooth smoke, easy on the palate, and didn't make me want to vomit.

I really like this thread - I went through a few cigars before I tried the Punch Rare Corojo Pita - that was the first one I really liked.

i smoked a few cohibas but was turned onto cigars after going into a shop with my friend who worked there and listening to him talk about all the cigars. He gave me a padron 2000 and ive been hooked ever since. It was the knowledge about the cigar i was smoking that really got me interested, before that they were just cigars.

I agree...part of the experience with me is knowing the history behind certain cigars, hardships the companies have endured, etc...

I use to pilfer my grandads Antonio y Cleopatras when I was a kid. First cigar I really enjoyed was a bundled cigar down in Honduras around 1977. Couldn't tell you what it was though, it was rolled locally in San Pedro Sula, pc sized, couldn't get enough of them.

Sauza by Drew Estate. First real cigar was a Cohiba XV 652. To expensive to buy on the basis I smoke now though.

No idea what my first cigar was?
I was smoking to keep bugs away while fly fishing.
Things really changed when I started driving into NY,
I'd make sure I had something nice to smoke for the Tunnel traffic.
I remember watching people all pissed at the traffic while I'd be thinking I hope this takes another 2o-30 minutes so I can finsh this!
The Serious Cuban thing started around 5 years ago -
My first then was a Monte 4.
