on the grass
I have been lacking on my cigar catalog.

i think i have a good reason though. Ive been tinkering with my guitars again.

A few years back a guy i worked with gave me an old yamaha rgx 220. ( the setup on it is a bit strange so im not sure if thats the actual model, but thats what it said on the neck)
Anyway... a week or two ago i found it and i re-did the entire thing. the only thing original on it now is the neck. the body has been changed a bit and painted. it has new Dimarzio pickups now. I put a Floyd Rose tremolo on it. The electrojnics cavity is now fully shielded and grounded. it isnt too strange of a set up save for one thing: it has a bass cut switch. A flip of the swith and the low end cuts out and it sounds like its playing on an old lo-fi AM radio. Its alot cooler than it sounds in words.
Think "wish you were here" by pink floyd... right at the begining.

its been alot of work but well worth it. I think its about time that i put time into making a guitar from scratch.

Are you going to build an electric or an acoustic? And are you going to build it from parts or from scratch?

electric.
i like an acoustic guitar and all but i also like to tinker with the inards of the electric guitar.

the one i plan on building is going to be more or less from scratch. ill build and design the body. I buy a neck but only because i dont have the tools for that at the moment. Im not going to be winding my own puckups or anything like that. Ill buy pickups and install them myself along with the knobs and switches. Ill be able to get more out of it than alot of the pre-made guitars out there like fender or gibson. most of those have tone, volume and pickup seletion.

i plan on having
volume
tone
bass cut
parallel/series switch
in/out of phase switch

this should give me more than 12 sounds from just 12 pickups.

Im thinking African Paduk as far as wood. Itll have a bold on neck leo fendar style. Im not sure about the pickups yet but im thinkin that ill go with Lace Alumitone humbucker sized pickups. All the hardware will have to be black so it works well with the deep redish wood.
should be alot of fun and alot of work.

Good luck with the paduk. It is one of the harder woods I have ever worked with. IIRC it chips rather than spliters if you let it get away from you.

All the best,

Joe

take my time with very sharp tools.

with any luck all will end well. i do have a few cuts that i worry about but nothing too bad i hope.

I bought a guitar this year but have had little time to learn to play it. Building a guitar seems like a great project. Let us know how it goes!

That sounds loke a pretty cool project. My son has been taking lessons for a year or so, nd I was thinking of getting into it myself (probably to old to learn).

Creating anything with your hands a few tools a a beatiful peice of wood can be very gratifying. Best of luck!!!. Would love to see picks as you progress!!!
