Help!!!!!!

I have 3 humidors and about 300 sticks. While checking the water in the humidifiers i noticed some small holes in in one of my cigars and on closer inspection found about a dozen cigars affected. I tossed all the cigars that showed damage and put the rest in the freezer. has anybody had to deal with bugs before and if so what else should i do. Thankfully only one of my boxes is affected. I ripped apart one of the affected sticks but could see no sign of the offenders other than just chewed up leaf. Any help would be appreciated

You did the right thing. Make sure the humidor is wiped clean, and bring your cigars slowly out of the frozen state after a couple days in the freezer, by storing them in the fridge for another day or two after that. Then, replace them in the humidor, and try to maintain humidity levels of no more than 65% after that, and try to keep the temperature at no more than 70 degrees Fahrenheit. I've never dealt with them, other than a couple holes in certain cigars here and there, but I believe that's the correct finishing touch to the procedure you already began.

Welcome to another Canadian!! It is good to see another one on this forum, it was getting lonely. I am just sorry it had to be a beetle question that brought you our of the woodwork. I hope you didn't lose too many good cigars!

You have come to the right place brother, these guys will always set you right!!

Bloof is spot on as always.

Make sure to keep the humidors somewhere around 70 degrees, its a major help in avoiding beetles.

Do a search for a thread here by Castle Crest. It gives detailed info on freezing your cigars to destroy the beetles. Good stuff.

That's the part i don't understand, my temp is always around 69, never higher than 71, humidity is always around 68 or 69 never going higher than 72, i heard that beetles only emerge around 80 degees? I'm confused!

how long have you had the stoges in question? could be possible they had already had a preexisting problem when you acquired them?

why dont all the manufactures freeze them and bring them back right after rolling to aviod this problem from day one? idk if its possible or not but just a thought

There are some who have started to do this, but that doesn't mean the danger has been eliminated. Freezing doesn't necessary kill them, but it certainly helps. As for 80, nope, they've been known to appear at much lower temps than that, and at humidity levels even less than 70. One can never be too careful. Yes, CastleCrest's advice on freezing infested cigars is the thread to search for. There's nothing he doesn't know.

Have you calibrated your hydrometer? Check out the "Salt Test" Thread on how to do it.

I'd double or even triple bag them to prevent them from drying out!
The freezer can be hard on cigars, but those little bastards are even worse.

Many time a new cigar can carry this problem.
Temp in transit can get very high.
It is a good idea to tupperware new smokes for a week before adding them to a humidor.
More so in the summer months!

MMM, roast beetles!! Yum, yum!!

Have you ever noticed they always attack the expensive cigars first?? They must have good taste, either that or they taste good!!

Yes, that's something that Padron did a few years ago when the cigar counterfeiting industry branched out from Cubans to some of the more popular and expensive non-Cubans as well.
