Humi temps

Hey all, I've got some humi high temp issues down here in sunny FLA.
Now, I know temps are preferred to be between 60-70 degrees, right?
There is no way in hades everyone in warm weather states owns a frigidor.
There is also no way in hades everyone keeps there thermostats set at 70 deg.
If I kept my 1 bedroom apt at 70 deg. I'd be shelling out double my electric bill.
Besides the beetle issues how does higher humidor temps effect the cigar?
I've heard temps of 75 deg. will invite beetles is this just speculation or what?
It looks like I've volunteered to be the guinea pig to find out when the beetles infest and at what temp, because I can't afford a frigidor or the scratch to turn my one bedroom into a meatlocker.
My humi goes from 75 to 77 degrees. Time will tell I spose, I'll keep ya'll posted.

Actually, anything over 72 degrees is risky, and beetles have been reported at temps below that. It is one of the vagaries of cigar storage that certain areas of the country have their own times of year during which maintaining proper temperature/humidity levels can be difficult. You cannot be expected to maintain temperature levels where you are, at least all the time, so in order to compensate, try keeping your humidity levels around 60-65%.

Welcome pic!

What part of FL are you from? I live in Tarpon Springs (just north of Tampa) though I go to school right now in Boston.

i know what you mean about temps as i live in bradenton. i try to keep my humidity down around 60 to 62 as bloof suggests. so far so good :D

Hey some floridians! I'm out of Clermont (15 miles west of Orlando)
I commute to Orlando for work.
Bloof, thanks for the humidity levels tip, 60-65% it is.
So far haven't had a bad stick out of my humi yet although the RP 92 didn't seem to want to stay lit halfway thru, so the humi is a bit on the wet side. It'll be on its way to 60%.

There's a lot of good cigar smoking folks down in Florida.

But of courrrrrrrrrrrrrrse.

Whne yu have a $1000 worth f cigar - having a $250 fridgador
seems like little to spend on piece of mind.

I keep AC running in my room with my cigars.
I like 65" at all times -
but for a few cigars I'd risk it

Yeah, I've just started so I don't have much of a collection yet, still trying figure out what I like. While I'd love a frigidor it just doesn't seem like it'd be big enough from the ones I've seen, I mean it would be perfect right now but if I got serious about sticks it 'd be full quick.
Anywho yep I'll just have to do what I can and hope for the best.

i use some large styrofoam coolers to store cigars in. i find that using the icepacks like those found in igloo coolers work quite well in keeping temps down. i have several extras that i keep frozen and rotate them in when needed. this seems to work really well. temps stay in the 62 to 65 degree range. a easy inexspensive soilution to us folks in florida. have been using this system for a year and had no problems :D :D
