to the Cinderella and Poison concert!!!!!!!!

80's hair bands rock!!!

ive seen poison in concert 4 times. they put on a GREAT show.
i wont be seeing them this year though...

the only band ive seen more than that is KISS

take any smokes?

OH MY GOD!! After the tens and tens of concerts I have been to, this one tops the list. Cinderella was real good, but Poison! They put on a terrific show!! I hope to see them again on July 28th!

So how fat is CC but now? He was getting big on the surreal life.

Speaking of hair bands; has anyone seen supergroup on VH1. Sebastian Bach is a Savage Animal. That show is hilarious.

Actually Phish, CC has lost a lot of weight. He was losing weight when he was on the Surreal Life. I would wager he is about 185-190ish. Not as cocaine-speed skinny as he was in the 80's, but he didn't look out of shape.
Still, his guitar skills last night were top notch, one of the greatest axe-gods of the 80's, and as far as I am concerned, still today. You show me any new "alternative-rock" bands today that could play half as good as the 80's hairbands guitarists!!

Not one, all power chords. The guys of true heavy metal we're the best rock guitarists.

Now if we're gonna talk some thing along the lines of a blues guitarist; Trey Anastasio is awesome. Just behind Clapton and Santana.

Did you forget Stevie about Ray Vaughn and Robert Johnson!?!?!?!

But you are right, all power chords and senseless screaming in the mic nowadays. I do believe the best part of the 80's hair bands were the women.....

Steveis incredible and Rob is very good. I really enjopy their stuff, just not as much as the previous 3 mentioned.

arent you forgetting about jimmy page?

i know hes from the 70s but damn he was good.

and what about buckethead? anyone ever heard of him. That guy has talent.

and one more

Dweezle Zappa.... thats right Franks kid. Amazing.

Let me just say that I'm a huge Led Zepplin fan, but Jimmy page will go down in history not only as an innovator, but the sloppiest guitarist ever!! True drugs and booze will do that, but his studio sessions are legendary for the amount of takes it would take to get a lead right!

If we are on the 80's guitar guru's, my list is as follows in no particular order:

Eddie Van Halen
Steve Vai
Joe Satriani
John Petrucci
Dime Bag Darrell!! R.I.P.
Kerry King
Kirk Hammett
Dave Mustain
Marty Friedman
80's Floyd...gotta go David Gilmour!
Slash
For starting a revolution Kurt Cobain
For showing who wrote the music Dave Grohl
man...the list goes on and on!

Stevie is one of my all time favorites

When I was a teen I hated poser hair bands. GLAM=Gay Los Angeles Metal. My tastes ran more along the speed/thrash metal, whereas a lot of the people I saw at concerts would be dressed like women I always wore the leather and denim that was the thrasher trademark. Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer were the big bands of the day and any glam stuff was considered as music for wannabe crossdressers. It was really that simple.

I don't know how many concerts I have seen in my life, probably over 200 and some great bands, saw Poison one time because I got a freebie ticket and I thought they absolutely stunk but I saw a lot of people having a ton of fun so hey, it was all good.

Glad your show went well Capt. I almost went and saw Ministry over the 4th weekend, funny because Al Jourgensen (vox, geetar) is pushing 50 years old and they get louder and more abrasive with every album. Last 80's band I saw was DEVO last year in Chicago and that was a good time.

Someone mentioned Buckethead as a great guitarist, I agree with that. I would add Fredrik Thordendal and Marten Hagstrom from Meshuggah, the guys had specially made 8 string guitars custom made and utilize them well in my opinion, add Adam Jones from Tool as well and you have my addition to the guitar god list. Tom Morello from Rage Against The Machine as well.

Damn I love metal, lol.

I love glam.
I also love metal.

I own metallica, Ministry, and Pantera.
I can remember what I was doing when i heard Dimebag had been shot. (also a great guitarist) I think there is very little "poser" music.
I can see how some people are in it for the money, but all in all, most musicians are in it for the music. They are having fun and they want you to have fun too.
When i was in a band i never wanted to be famous. I just wanted people to enjoy my music.
Sometimes i dont understand why a band is popular (Nickleback), but then i sit back and think that one of my favorite band is hated by many within their own genra... i mean Billy Corgan is not my first choice of a singer.

oh and eclipse man... the acustic part of stairway was recorded in one (1) take. I always think of page more as a musician than a guitarist. He was a great producer, innovator, writer...
and he was young when he did it all. At 25 already toured with three bands (Christian &the crusaders, and the yardbirds (Clapton,Beck)) and Led Zeppelin pushing out the albums Led Zeppelin I, II and III. Not to mention playing on albums for Donavin, and Joe Cocker (yes that IS page on the beatles cover of "With a little help from my friends") I have never heard of another guitarist to have accoplished so much by that age.

ok i think its time i stop my rant.

I still listen to some metal but my tastes run pretty diverse these days, musical maturity some might say. The only constant in what I listen to today is that is has to be a challenge to listen to, I can't listen to something I already know inside out, got to be fresh. That doen't mean that once in a while I don't break out The Wall or Master of Puppets but I try to keep things fresh.

Mastodon is a relatively new metal band that I listen to these days, just the right combination of old school/new breed metal, good stuff. Apart from them, Meshuggah, The Mars Volta, Tool and The Locust, I haven't bought a rock-metal album in a long time.
