Anyone out there into investing? I play the stock market and really enjoy it. The economy and market is not as bad as the media plays it.

What are your thoughts?

Can you believe that you can by stock in a presidential candidate...
Hillary's stock is like $75 a share. What happens if she does not make it out of the prelims? Do you just completely lose your investment?

To answer your question, I used to play the stocks, kinda day traded for a while, it was a blast. I sold it all 3 years ago to make a down payment on a house...I payed taxes out my wazoo that year! I will never make short investments like that again with stocks! Lesson learned for me at least. I do own long term stock, though.
I got in on the ground floor for Sirius Sat. Radio, that has done very well for me in the last 6 years

We also long term invest, Connor. I do enjoy day trading, though. As said, the market is not as bad as the media makes it out to be. And the economy for that matter. I am an optimist. I watch Scottrade during the day. We are very forunate to own stocks that are doing pretty good. I am also a James Cramer fan. Pretty much what he says, you can take to the bank.

I would think right now would be a good time to invest in housing and medical, both are way down.

I think medical would be awesome! Especially with all the research on cancer. We don't personally own any medical stocks unless they are in our mutual funds but can you imagine getting in on the company that finds a cure for cancer? We do have a financial stock in a lending/mortgage bank in New Jersey. That has done pretty well in spite of the recent mortgage crisis.

It's what I do for a living so I know absolutely nothing about it.

On Jim Cramer - Barron's ran an article a while back and tracked his picks - if you followed his advice you would have lost more than the indexes.

The one piece of advice I can give is diversify and cover all of the style boxes. Stick to your plan and don't let others steer you from what you have set in motion.

Thats one of the reasons I won't use a broker. Not that I am an expert. I just don't want someone else losing my money for me.

I had a chance yrs. ago to get in on the ground floor with home shopping network. Doing a job for a stock brocker at his home. I was there for 3 days. He kept saying let me get you in on the ground floor. That scared me. Minimum investment was 500.00
!0 blocks of 5. First of all, back then, 500.00 may as well been a million. Raising 3 kid's 500.00 was a ton of money. Anyway I watched the stock soar, split, split again, and keep right on going. If the wife and I figured it out correctly back in the late 80's that 500.00 would have been close to 100,000. Oh well just wasnt meant to happen.
A club to do some stocks would be fun, even if only for fun.

Tried the stock market. Didn't lose but I'd rather go to a casino and put my money in front of me with pretty much known odds on table games. The stock market is a lottery to me.

I invest in real-estate. My brother and I started about 3 years ago and we really have no desire to stop anytime soon... Especially now that I can take advantage of all of the idiots that can't afford to pay their teaser rate mortgages. Now is the time to jump right in if you're even thinking about it.

true that!!

not only is this a buyers market, but all those displaced people are gunna need a place to live. They can rent from you.

I took a helluva beating on John Deere (DE) today. Lost about $6 dollars a share. :censored:

DL

Well, gained back what we lost on DE. In spite of what CNN (Clinton news network) says, there is still an upward trend in the market. BUT.......... The all holy Alan Greenspan says that we clearly in a recession! I thought a recession was two quarters of negative growth? I know we are in a slow down period but not negative growth.

Oh well, Greenspan has spoken!

DL

We took a 9 dollar a share loss on DE yesterday. About $8 of it occured in the first hour of the market being open. I felt like standing on top of my desk and jumping off onto the top of my head.

The bright side is, now could be a good time to buy at discount and average down my cost per share. I'll see what it does today.
