Long Term Storage and air

Zigarreraucher, I do have a question (nice site by the way) My question is What is a thermoelectric igloo? And, where would one get a thermoelectric igloo?

I am going to have to check this out further! Mine is kind of small, but would easily hold 3-4 boxes, and a humidity source. I was under the impression that the inside temp was relative to the outside temp. So that if it was say, 75 degrees outside then it would be x degrees inside, and would vary as did the outside temp. :dunno: I do not think I still have the manual for mine, though. So how hard is it to modify a cooler of this type inorder to use to store cigars?

Spider,

The cooler I have has a temperature differental of aproxamatly 44 degrees fahrenheit. The mod is quite easy relatively speaking. Adding a temperature controller, thermocouple and a relay. I'll post a schematic and a few instructions on my web site as soon as I can

no offense taken. Originally I had it set up to control all on and all off. But last summer I was experiencing a wide variant in relative humidity 65%-85%. To make a long story short the peltier temperature dropping below 59 Degrees to maintain the cabinet at 70/70. At 70/70 59 degrees is dew point and I was getting condensation on the peltier. Water dripping on my puros will not due. My solution was a controller that had a PID function (Proportional-Integral-Derivative) setting my relay to heat and cool. I also added 2 new fans that run 1/2 speed 24/7.

I personally would never vaccum seal a box of cigars. I store all of mine in one cabinet. The temp is set at 65-67 degrees and the humidity is at 58-62 percent. My tubed cigars are stored as they come in their boxes. All of my other boxes and cabs are opened for inspection by the vendor and when I get them they go right into the cab as they are.

My cigars age and smoke very well at these levels.

I do the same thing!
I only brought this up as a discussion point.
I do know of a serious collector that ages cigars 5-10 years
he does the vacum pack thing.
Personally I can keep a cigar for more than 3 or 4 years!
At least that is as far as I have reached to date.
