I WAS TOLD BY MY CIGAR : SUPPLYER THAT THE GOV WAS GOING TO
PUT A 53%TAX ON CIGARS STARTING IN APRIL
HAS ANY ONE ELSE BEEN TOLD THIS OR IS MY SUPPLYER TRYING
TO STARTING A PANIC BUYING LIKE AMMO  :x

I was told to expect another tax increase in two weeks. No info on the actual amount though.

The SCHIP tax increase goes into affect on Apr 1, 2009.

For large cigars, the tax rate will go from $.04875 to $.40 per cigar.
For cigarettes, the tax rate will go from $.39/pack to $1.0066/pack.
For roll your own tobacco, it will go from $1.0969/lb to $24.78/lb (Yes, a $25 tax per pound).

To see the amount and percentage of the increase see Here.

Many of the producers have already increased the prices to cover the new taxes. Some may even raise prices again after Apr 1.
