As you may have heard, Ortega is back in power. He was responsible for one of the bloodiest civil wars in that country's history. The impact on tobacco is speculative at the moment, but if history is any indicator we may be missing out on some of our favorite cigars in the near future. It is possible he may take over the plantations like Castro did in Cuba.

holy crap ... now it says 665 .... wtf?

am i blind or did it change?

BTW, since I'm paranoid about the Nic. situation, I'm hording Padron's. Man, I hope that the production doesn't stop.

It will be interesting to see what that bone head does down there. I really hope he'll leave the cigar industry alone. Time will tell.

Actually from what I understand, Padron was a big supporter of Ortega. The situation is in the air from what I understand, but you must remember that the things he did in power last time did not work and he realizes that. Time will tell, he wont actually assume his role until Feb 07.

From talking with some manufacturers, they have been getting ready for this just in case. The Untied States already had a short embargo in the mid 80's with Nicaragua...but hopefully it won't happen again.

It would be a shame if there was a result like Cuba, but personally I think it's doubtful. There is a lot of good things going on in Nicaragua right now....In a couple days the new Cigar.com newsletter is coming out, there is actually a Q & A about Nicaraguan tobacco.

I guess it never hurts to stock up! good excuse to finally build that walk-in humidor!
