Hi all,

just curious on where proper placement is for my oasis humidifier. I currenly have it on the bottom of my 300ct humi. My digital hydromote on the top stays between 66-67%, but the oasis is set at 70%. When I press the oasis to check the humidity it reads 70.5%. Shouldn't it be the same throught the humi? Thanks for any help.

Craig

Do you know for a fact that they normally read the same? Even if they do, I wouldn't sweat a 4% difference. Don't those things circulate the humidity? If it really bugs you, you can get an oust fan (without the scented stuff inside, obviously), but I wouldn't worry about it. Just my two cents...

some people actually WANT that difference in their humis. If they find that a cigar does better at 70% then its put closer to the bottom. if it does better at 65ish then they put em at the top.

If you want it to be uniform RH i also say that a fan is the way to go.

Hmm, never thought about it like that. I assume if you want to age a cigar you want to keep it at 70. Then as you are getting ready to smoke it you should move it up in the humi to bring it down a little? Sorry for all the questions. I have always kept my smokes in a locker at my local stor, I just recenly bought my first Humi above a 20ct.
Thanks,
Craig

I have salt tested all of my digital hygrometers - the Oasis always reads at least 3-4 % higher than my digitals. If they read the same it makes me worry! I guess I should talk to the company, but since it is always consistent I am cool with it.

this is exactly the case with mine...i like my humi in the range of 62-63% in the top trays and in the bottom i like to keep it at about 64-65%...in order to do this i need to set the oasis to 70-70.5%...

I see quite a few people like to keep their humi's about 65%. So what is the deal with the 70/70 rule?

70/70 is where they age the best.

65% RH is where they burn the best.
...at least in my opinion.

Matt,
i am in the same boat as you. I keep my humidity around 62-63%, and I have to keep my 2 Oasis at 67%. I have one in the bottom of my cabinet and one in the middle. The Oasis is a good product to generate humidity, but it's up to us to really check out what's going on inside our humidors. I don't think the built-in hygrometers are really accurate so you have to play trial and error with the settings to get the humidity you want.

totally agree, can't rely on the oasis with regard to monitoring humidity, just to supply to where i want it

I read on one of the threads that polymer beads are better in my Oasis. Is this correct? I think Kevin and Chris were going to show us newbies, with pictures how to do this.
