My youngest child will be 26 in a few week's. My oldest will be 30 in a few months. The baby girl, the middle child, will be 28. They all have given grandma and me some great grandbabie's.
So far this year, we have handed out $1000.00's of dollar's. One needed to pay the gas bill after going on a week's vacation to Disney World. Imagine that. One needed money to buy school clothes, and make a car payment. One needed money to help with the downpayment on a house. The girl's have good job's and so do their husband's. The boy has a good job and is the one buying the house. They all are paying the loan's back.
Now come's the grandkid's. Two of them live right across the street from us. So every evening when they get off the school bus, they come over to grandma's house, for milk and cookie's. They also hit us up for icecream money for the next day. Lil' Dawg, my nick for him because he isn't very big for a 6 yr. old, loves the Indy Colt's. This is my oldest daughter's son. Me being a loyal Cleveland Brown's fan has to ride his a$$ for his loyalty to the Colt's. So he call's me up Wendsday of last week and tell's me he has ticket's to the Colt's and Bengal's game for Friday. So I take him. We go to Hardrock Cafe for dinner. $35.00 for dinner and tip. Then off to the RCA dome for the game. After a Payton jersey and a number 1 foam finger, still more money, I have to listen to all the reason's why they lost all the way home. I live an hour from Indy. Fairly Knowlegable about the game itself though. I guess sitting him on my lap watching game's has paid off. My youngest daughter has a little girl that's going to be 8 yrs. old on Sept. 18th. She lives 5 hrs. away in Medina, Ohio. About 30 miles south of Cleveland. So every year grandma and I have to pack up the truck and head up there for her birthday. She alway's want's to go to the Indian's game. So there is another 100.00 or so for ticket's. Plus all the dog's and nacho's her and grandma consume. She also has to make one of those stuffed teddy bear's that is popular now. Only it's the Indian's team mascot, Slider. More $$$$.
Not to mention all of the niece's and nephew's that graduated from high school and college this year.
So I just wonder to myself, and out loud now, if I will ever get done raising kid's?
Man I certainly hope not. Family and friend's are all you really have in life!!!!!

Right there with you Brother.

Took my two youngest to the Auburn football game Saturday. Tickets, food, programs, t-shirts, more food in the stadium. Great day.

My oldest daughter got married in June, now they live in our basement which has a bedroom, bath, and living/dining area.

But isn't it what it's all about. I mean when you take that leap to have your first kid you gotta realize your gonna be broke until you die. Me myself, I can't wait till my 6 year old daughter grows up and has kids, then I'll be the "crazy old grandpa" that loves to buy toys that make noise. But I have a few years to plan out my daughter and future son-in-laws misery. Until then, while I can afford it, I got my beautiful cigars.

you're the jerk that buys them a drum set at age 6.

Yea guy's, it really wasn't a rant about having to spend the hundy's. It was more sarcastic. Capt. said it best,"I wouldn't have it any other way." I am glad I am able to help the chillin's out. They are very good kid's. They prolly hated me as teen-ager's cause they walked around with my size 10 in thier a$$. As for the grandkid's they have grand-daddy twisted around thier finger's. And they know it. Especially the girl's. My kid's are alway's borrowing money. But, they alway's pay dad back.
As the last line say's in my first post,
Will I ever be done raising kid's,,,,,Man I sure hope not.

Try being 45 and having a 3yr old and a 4yr old. At least as a grandparent you can take them home or give them back! ;)

I was married the first time for 11 years (1987-1998) to a woman who "Can't Understand Normal Things" if you catch my drift -- luckily we didn't have kids, but I always wanted a family -- so in 2000 got married again (didn't make the same mistake twice, 2nd time I married someone of the same religion) and in 2002 had our son and in 2003 had a daughter (16 mo apart). I love them more than anything, but it is much harder to keep up with them or have patience at my age than it would have been in my 20's.

And if you think grandchildren are expensive -- it is worse as a parent today. We just were at Stride Rite getting my daughter shoes for Pre-School ---- $75!!!!!!!!!!!!!! for a pair of GEOX Tennis Shoes/Sneakers --- Then we went to Wal-Mart to buy some clothes for both of them (why get expensive clothing for them to tear up/ruin) and blew just under $700 on school clothes. That amount was over 2 months of my fathers salary when I went to pre-school in 1966
