having never actually smoked a tobacco pipe, does the shape of the pipe actually affect flavour and such? I'm sorry if this is a really newb question here.

I know the straight pipes always have a tendency to have tobacco juice come right into your mouth. With the bent, sherlock, ones, they keep that moisture down.

I've been smoking a pipe for about 10 years. There's no more or less tendency for that to happen with one shape or the other. It has to do with the pipe itself. Specifically, it's the geometry of the tenon hole to the shank. I've got both straight and bent pipes that never gurgle; also, how you smoke can affect whether you get a lot of moisture; smoking too fast is the usual reason . I started off only buying bent pipes; now I tend towards straight as they're a lot easier to deal with, especially when driving.

I smoked a pipe about 20 years ago, mostly around the camp fire sort of deal. The wife threw it out, and I never replaced it.

Bildo, nice collection of pipes! For some unknown reason I brought my pipes out of storage and ordered a sampler of tobacco. I have 2 Caminetto Business, 2 Savinelli, a Danish free style and a Meerschaum. I put them away years ago when I took up cigars, but, want to give them another try. Glad to see so many pipe smokers also enjoy cigars.

im a cigar smoker enjoying pipes... im just getting into it. I'm trying to read up on the subject as much as possible.

Since we were all sharing our pipe pictures.........this one is the one I drilled a hole in at the end of a long day of building cabinets and re-doing a room.

Yeah, funny now - my buddy got a huge kick out of it when he came over to help me out!

I have a couple pretty sweet axes

here's one of 'em...I look stoned or something in this pic, but I'm not. I promise.

Here is a picture of the pipe and stuff I just bought to try out. So far, not too bad. Definately different from cigars but I think I will end up enjoying it.

Heh, I have all kinds of lighting instruments. The thing in the black case is a Prometheus torch lighter which I use for the cigars. That or a match.
