Cooked some salmon on the Dome tonight using cedar and birch grilling planks. Not bad, not bad at all.

I just picked up some cedar planks. Any tips on technique you learned?

I'll trade you a pretty decent Kung Pao chicken recipe for 'em. :D

It was my first time using planks so in retrospect I probably should have either lightened up on or nor used the rub at all so it would have been easier to detect the differences in the planks.

I just soaked the planks while I was getting the grilled fired up, about twenty minutes or so, then put them in until they started to smoke a bit, then I put the salmon on them.

Personally I like salmon on the cedar planks. I have soaked the planks in several things apple juice is my fav. Then just cracked pepper on the salmon.

Hey Travis (or anyone else for that matter) how similar is Steelhead to Salmon?

Steelhead and other trout are in the salmon family (Salmonidie). I can not believe I remembered that name..

As for flavor I like the trout better. We get lots of brook trout up here in the summer and I love em. In NH where my grandmother grew up her house was right on the israel river When we used to go visit we would get up early and go out back and catch trout so we could have trout and eggs for breakfast YUMMY. The house is still in our family though I have not been fishing there in a very long time. My mother is spending the holiday weekend there. My grandmothers brother lives across the crossroad and his son live in the house across the street.

Interesting, cook the trout the same as you would salmon?
