Puffs per Minute ??

I do end up re-lighting more often, Hatchetman - but I find it is worth it. I also keep the humidity in my cabinet at about 63 Rh so I think the burn is a bit better.

But I do keep lighters hidden everywhere - just found 3 in my golf bag 20 minutes ago.

good point. i too keep my humi at a lower RH i keep mine at 65% RH my burn is almost always good.

thats an interesting thought....you say because you keep your humidity lower...you burn slower?

burn better

The lower RH helps to burn better not slower. If kept in the higher humidity the cigar is a bit more moist so the burn can be snuffed out on its own. If the stick is a bit drier it will stay lit between puffs and possibly a more even burn.

I keep mine right at 63 Rh, that's the lowest I will go - they just seem to smoke best at that level. I have had a guy up at the course complain that the cigar I gave him was too dry. I guess to each his own. I would suggest dropping it down a little at a time and see what works for you.

And yes, that was the last cigar that guy has gotten from me! Complain about a free cigar?!!! Harumph!

After reading this post I made an effort to take a puff a minte the other night. My robusto sized cigar lasted just over an hour comparied to the usual 45min. I did notice more subtle flavors and it was less harsh. Hopefully I can continue this without paying such close attention.
All you gotta do now is take up golfing. :D

Someday T - we will have to have a forum golf outing. Then revenge will be mine.

Another tip I have gotten from Castle Crest that I like to do for a better burn and smoke - I let my cigars sit out for a few hours before I smoke them. The man has never steered me wrong. Plus he taught me the correct way to toss a pallette on a bonfire.

On larger ring sizes I tend to find my self
doing a short draw followed by a deeper draw.
I have not experienced my smokes getting hot
but could this affect the flavors I could be experiencing.

in a cigar.com hard copy catalog a while back there was a section about how to taste a cigar. It gave the basics of taste (how most of it is smell and all you tongue can taste is salt sweet and bitter) and how to actually go about smoking a cigar for maximum flavor.

the quote above by bill reminded me of that. The article said EXACTLY that.

...well not EXACTLY, but it reminded me of it. What the article did say was that you should take two very short puffs and then one deep draw. THis draw should be held in the mouth and "swished" like you would a wine so that smoke is in contact with all parts of the tongue. then let the smoke go.
this is also how i smoke all my cigars and partially how i am able to get so many different flavors into my reviews.

so bill, to answer your question:
Yes it is affecting your flavor-- for the better. (IMHO)

Don't worry Kelvin. This guy is Tiger Woods compared to me.

As for puffs... I take 1 puff per minute, or sometimes 2 minutes. I like to keep my cigar as cool as possible. Keeps the taste from getting bitter.
